2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rockets did potentially well for themselves in the low cost acquisitions of KPJ and Kenyon Martin Jr.

Now they just desperately need their pick to stay in the top4 and they will dodge a huge risk bullet from the Russ/CP3 trade and hold on to their pick in this highly regarded draft class.

Finished the game with 13pts 5 rebs 10ast 3stl 1blk 4to. He looks bigger than barnes and will probably start soon for the rockets. He's in a good situation with houston where he can develop as a point guard.

Cavs have away a young Ricky Davis clone and I don't know how I feel about it.

rockets have gotten a huge steal if they can keep him out of trouble

He looked good for us as well in spurts last year. We know he’s a talented basketball player. Let’s wait and see if his antics pop off again before getting upset. If Houston can keep him focused this season good for him and them, but when the Summer break rolls round let’s see if he can keep it together. I don’t see a player making a full 360 this quick after all the bs he pulled with his stint with us. Especially considering there was far worse some posters have alluded to that didn’t appear in the news

Yeah...

My prediction is that Kevin Porter will make Koby look incompetent.

He looks so natural out there.
Quite true.

He also looks bigger. His defense is a lot to be desired; but his feel, shiftiness, and offensive game is already good. He will be a great player for houston as long as he is in a good mental space.

Btw for any of you card collectors his Optic 1/1 Black sold at 3k this past week and a 1/8 Optic Card sold for 1600.

Yeah...

Yeah but he insulted Koby to his face. No coming back from that. Koby had to preserve his own respect. That's more important than having a ball handling scoring wing, which is the exact piece missing from our core.

I don't think he can make Koby look incompetent. Koby took a huge risk in drafting him, and gave him chance after chance after chance. His trade to Houston had nothing to do with his basketball ability. I hope KPJ figures it out, because he's a tantalizing talent, but knowing what we now know, I don't think that would have happened in Cleveland unfortunately.

Then he’ll be also making 28 other GMs look incompetent for not offering more than the top55 protected 2nd round pick to acquire KPJ that HOU did.

But this is a long term story. As a human being, I want KPJ to have long term success and conquer/manage his issues. He very well may.

But if he incredibly for a season and a half or two and then has recurring problems that cause him to not be a reliable player for his team, then ultimately no harm is done to the Cavs.

This is simply not a case that can be judged based off of raw talent or off of his initial foray back into NBA games.

This isn't 2k. You can separate the player from the person. Otherwise Drummond would be a dpoy.

From everything I've been reading, this was the best move for both KPJ and the Cavs. Good on them to send him to a situation that had the resources to give KPJ the support he may need.
