2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Porter's game suits the NBA way more. I don't care what he did in College tbh. His first step, shiftiness, dribbling arsenal, ability to finish and potential as a shooter off the bounce is something that will translate, sooner or later. He has the potential to be very, very hard to guard...he will need to show however that he is willing and capable of making the right play as a passer.

He is a steal. Just need to develop him and mentor him right.

agree he seems like a good kid based off that interview but he did get suspended for whatever reason, hopefully we have the right environment around him to be successful

"personal conduct issues."

My guess is that he got into a fight with a coach, but that's just a guess. Why? Late for practice would have earned him a warning shot. Fighting with a teammate would have been harsh but not that harsh. Drugs would have likely gotten him kicked out of the program. Not sure if the coach has a daughter. Anyway, the bright side was that he stuck it out for the year and managed to get reinstated for the last few games. Seems rare for a one-&-done guy to show that level of patience.

I heard 2 different things. He smoked weed and he would break off plays to freelance which lead to an argument with the coaches at practice. Showing up to practice late was also a rumor.

You wouldn't get kicked off the team for weed right? Something harder makes more sense.

I liked how Beilein emphasized professionalism and talked about showing up on time etc. He wants to make sure these guys are disciplined all the way around.

KPJ might just be really specical. He has a ton of skills in the bag and was red flagged for his attitude. Yet here he just runs the floor rebounds, makes the easy pass and attacks close outs. If he starts with that foundation and then turns into an iso scorer its a huge boost to the cavs rebuild

I was really imoressed with Kevin. He tried hard defensively and got in foul trouble. Good lesson that he needs to defend with his body.

If his finishing can be like this. Wow. Just turned 19. Hes more ready than I expected. Gotta see him against NBA guys.

Agreed he looked much more NBA ready than I was expecting, really makes you wonder what happened in College because his stats werent that amazing. The way he drives is very James Harden like

KPJ really looks like a top 5 pick. There's such a natural smoothness to his game and the kid has loads of potential. Belein is the perfect coach for these young guys. We need 2 of Sexton, Garland and KPJ to turn into allstars (not this year) and our rebuild will be off to a rocking start. Really looking forward to this season.

I really liked everything about him.

However, he looks...weird. Smooth. I was expecting more power in his game from what I've seen in college, and now all of a sudden he looks like a glider.

His shot looks a lot better, though. His gather on his shot is trash but the release is near good now.
