2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
His shot seems so good when he hoists and bad when he hesitates.

Really like to see Sexton, Porter, and Osman (even Winder when back in shape) on the floor together. Their length, ball handing, and transition game would be really good.

His ceiling is so high. Love his game and it showed tonight. Still believe he is the steal of the draft.
KPJ and Clarke are proving to be real steals also have Bol Bol tearing it up in G league. Keeping my eye on Tacko Fall. Hope Windler finds his way in the sleeper list with some deep bombs.

I loved Brandon Clarke too. I did not think it would be a steal - he is a big man who can play in the modern nba. If he can make consistent 3s, he is going to be great.

Yes, a lot of posters here liked him

Totally agree. I think the Porter Cedi duo is not getting enough time. They have been good defensively and at least give us some damn length.

Glad we saw this last night. I don't mind Darius continuing to start if KPJ gets minutes with the starters and Darius gets more time with Henson, Delly, and Nance. They weren't as good in the 2nd half, but they were good in the first.

Just putting KPJ in with the starters gave us good wing defense. It was great.

I also think there is been enough drama with this team right now that they don't need to demote and promote someone. I think switching rotations is enough to get certain guys playing together.

I like Porter and he might end up being a long term starter but I don't think we know that for sure yet. Promoting him and demoting Garland or Cedi just doesn't make sense at this time. I've seen Cedi's starting spot as a placeholder for someone better but that could be Porter, Windler, or someone we draft in the future. To promote Porter to later demote him might cause unnecessary drama that this team doesn't need. Hopefully once Love and the other vets are traded, Beilein can put together different lineups and give the young guys some starts here and there that doesn't demote anyone or make anyone feel like they got a full time promotion.

Am I the only worried about Kevin's shot? Everything else looks good - especially his feel for the game on both ends, but his shot looks so broken (even when he hits it). Whose our shooting coach on the staff?

I usually don't think a shot can be improved dramatically once players hit the NBA... but KPJ is only 19, and more importantly being selected 30th gives him the benefit of lower expectations (then say, Ben Simmons). He and the shooting coach need to join Sexton in the gym lifting 5,000 shots a day (or whatever the number is).

I had the pleasure of being able to listen to Richard Jefferson on the Nets-Cavs broadcast via League Pass. RJ praised KPJ and thinks the shot will come around. RJ said he was two years older than KPJ when he entered the league and it still took him three years to learn how to shoot. Put the right coaching staff around him and give him some time, and I think he'll be able to figure it out.

I don't think you are wrong to be worried. The weird thing to me is that it seems like his 3pt shot is much better than his pull up 2. He has a different form on his 3 pt shot and follows through better I think. The pull up is like a shot put, but his 3 pt shot actually has arc.

Dunno what is going on, but I am really glad he is putting up more 3's than long and mid range 2's. He def needs to play money ball. Shots around the basket/dunks or 3's. He seems to basically be doing this. His 3pt % is just 30-%, but it seems like he is hitting his open ones, and also seems good from the corner.

KPjr, so far, has been the most intriguing of this crop of tank-harvest. He moves the ball, moves without the ball, has some really incredible one on one skills.. can absolutely get behind him as the future starting 2. Yeah, it's weird that he crosses his face left to right on his jumper, and sure, he isn't a defender right now, but I'm in on KP. Plus, when they wear the 90's throwbacks he has the old Kemp jersey on makes me nostalgic for Krispy Kream.

I think the reason why is that there is inherently less space on a pull-up two. It is a more contestable shot and KPJ already has a hitch that alters the speed and accuracy of his release. Even a partial contest can make it so KPJ is way off and Ithink that is why his midrange looks so ugly.

super interested in seeing Windler. quick trigger 3 man is a major need on the Cavs, i probably have way too many eggs in the Belmont Bomber basket.

Every time the Cavs draft a supposed good outside shooter...he is inconsistent at scoring..then he goes to another team and hits everything in sight. Go figure .
