2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Hunter achieves Trevor Ariza that is a home run.. I think reddish has upside, but he is more of a dice roll.

Trevor Ariza is a terrible comp for Hunter. He's not nearly as atheltic as a young Ariza and they have completely different bodies. I doubt Hunter achives Ariza level production. He's a solid defender who can't create for himself. I'm not sure why anyone thinks a player who can't create is worthy of a lotto pick and it certainly wouldn't be a homerun if he reached Ariza levels when he was picked in the top 5.

How did this guy fall to 30? It's not like he was some unknown––a lot of draft experts considered him a lottery talent with an NBA body and some question marks. In a deep draft of role players, you would think some team would have taken the swing earlier.

What I have enjoyed most about watching Porter is the energy he has brought every single game. Even when his shot hasn't been falling (which clearly needs an offseason or two of work), he has contributed. The most pleasant surprise of the season thus far.

The main problem I think is no one believes in his 3pt shot. Right now it looks like his 3 is better than his mid range which was true in college too. Luckily the number that was wrong was his ft%.

Someone on the team told Evan Damarell said USC overreacted and his off court issues were not a big deal.

The numbers guys here said there were hundreds of guys that were just as good as Porter. I just kept looking at his and 1s and how he dunked from a standstill under the hoop in college. I also loved his handle.

I wanted that Miami pick and thought we should take him at 14. Def had him over Langford and Reddish

They aren't complaining now. But I have a couple of friends who like the Heat and they were fuming for a little while over them picking Herro over KPJ.

Perhaps I would have better to say that If Hunter reaches a competency that Ariza has, then it would have been a good use of the pick for Atlanta. I agree with you that Ariza is probably not a good comp. But I think Hunter could have more upside that you seem to think. Can't say he will reach that potential though.

Maybe he does maybe he doesn't have more upside then I think. But he's 3 years older then the majority of others picked around him. He's not an elite athlete and he has never shown the ability to create for himself. Given his age, lack of ability to create and not being an elite athlete I don't see how he maxes out as anything more then a role player and you don't take those in the top 5 unless you think your one piece away.

He is 2 years and two months older than Darius..

22 is not washed up old never getting better, especially at the wing.. he is playing 30 minutes a game while Jimmy Butler averaged 8 minutes his rookie year. It may be he is Harrison Barnes, who knows..He is not LeBron, but putting limits on a rookie is Crystal ball at best..

I never said he wouldn't get better. But his upside isn't that of an all-star. He has the upside of a very good complimentary piece. To me that's not someone you take in the top 5. He has a limited ceiling its not just age. He has seen 3 years of college basketball (He redshirted a year so still got 3 years working with a college staff but only played 2 years) and development and never got better with his handles or creating his own shot. So far with the Hawks its much of the same.

People with his skill set and upside usually go in the 20s. Older college kid, hardnosed defender, can't create for himself. If he could create for himself or ever showed a knack for getting steals or blocks I would view him differently. But right now his upside is trending towards not hurting the team but not changing the game for his team either. The trademark role player Which every team needs but the value of a top 5 pick should be spent on someone with more upside then role player.

Pretty good flashes against the Celtics. He took it to smaller and bigger players and Drew fouls several drives in a row.

Very nice difficult passes tonight.

I'm higher on him than on Darius right now. Just had that dog in him.

He beat up on their scrubs in garbage time. Couldn't do much in the first half. But I can see him as our starting 2 eventually.

Holy crap that injury didn't look good. Hope he can be back next year...

That ruined my night. He was the bright spot on the season and he is going to be out for some time. What a bummer to lose that when he was doing so well. Injuries really suck. It's not good it was so pedestrian.

So typical of the Cavs luck. They might be onto something with this kid and he looks to get a devastating injury.

any reports at all on his injury?
