2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The response was more in connection to whoever it was that said he could play the outfield as needed

I said it would hurt the outfield d ... even said I was beginning to accept the thought ... excuse me for not being a lemming

You're more than allowed to not like Castellanos because he is pretty awful in the OF. Not asking you to be a lemming lmao

But you're just not listening to the counter arguments people are giving you.

Being a rational human being would suffice.

Its not as though having Bauers out in LF over Castellanos presents a tangible difference.

Calling others "lemmings" for not kneeling before an argument you're not even willing to make is a douchebag response, quite frankly. Maybe leave that club in the bag next time.

Arguments Against
  • Pretty bad defensive OF
  • May cost the Indians a bit more because they're trading in division
  • Only one year of team control
Arguments For
  • Because of his one year of team control, you are likely not giving up much for a player of his caliber
  • Trending in the right direction
    • March-May (.268/.313/.465) with a 102 wRC+
    • June-present (.307/.378/.506) with a 134 wRC+
      • Current having his best month of the season (.320 / .354 / .573) in July
  • Consistent track record
    • .285 / .334 / 493 since 2016
    • On pace for his 4th straight season with an OPS over .810
  • The team is lacking an everyday DH
    • In the 8 games since Bobby Bradley has been sent down, the Indians have used to spot 4 times to get a player rest
      • (Kipnis x1, Lindor x2, Santana x1)
      • Jake Bauers has occupied the position the other 4 times
        • 3 of the times were vs. LHP so Luplow could start in the OF
        • Despite playing much, much better since the start of June, Bauers still only has a 98 wRC+ over that span, coming out near league average. As mentioned earlier, Castellanos has a 134 wRC+ over that same span
  • The Indians can stick him in LF every now and then. As mentioned in previous comments, Brantley and Bauers have been the ones to roam that position recently. Neither are as bad as Castellanos, but both are below average defenders.
  • Mashes Lefties
    • .312 / .361 / .556 split since 2016
    • Only Kipnis has worse splits vs. LHP than Bauers does this year
    • If the Indians make the WC, they may be facing Sale/Price or Blake Snell in the WC game. 50/50% chance they would then face the Yankees in the 1st round. You don't necessarily make trades thinking like this, but would be great to have a bat like that in the middle of your lineup

Also, with the things I said about Bauers above. He's simply the odd man out every 4th day when a LH starter is pitching. Bauers would still be playing near everyday.

@jack hammill why does this make you sad?

Bauers is not a good outfielder. Could easily rotate them between LF/DH as needed to keep both fresh, and to keep either of them from getting rusty.

Simply my desire to never see him in the next upfield at the expense of those who are more effective ... I am not alone in preferring he not play there

The Tigers do not even prefer him there

Again the only real argument that I am making at this point is that I do not really want him in the outfield ... I am actually the one not kneeling to those who suggest he gets some time there

Nor am I asking folks to bow to what I am saying

Let him DH and Santana play 1st ... find a way to keep Allen in this if possible

I'm fairly certain that every single person here agrees that our everyday lineup is Santana at 1B, Castellanos at DH.

I agree with you that I don't want him out there. I don't agree with the people saying that Castellanos and Bauers are equal in LF. I think Bauers is better out there.

It seems you're up in arms about giving Castellanos a day in LF if Bauers needs a break. That's a really small sample to get riled up about.

The club’s No. 1 prospect, 3B Alec Bohm, is likely off-limits in any trade, but right-hander Adonis Medina would probably be on the table. Then again, anybody could be on the table given that they dealt top prospect Sixto Sanchez in the J.T. Realmuto trade during the offseason. Adam Haseley (the team’s No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline) or former No. 1 overall Draft pick Mickey Moniak (No. 9) could be a good gamble for the Indians, who are also seeking future outfield help. Thanks ... the Bauers break can come from Luplow or Allen who can play defense ... I personally like the arms of naquin and Luplow on the corners and that when the ball is shot to the outfield that there is a chance the fielder may beat it to the gap

Again I am only expressing the same concern that it seems the Tigers may have

So, you're weighing option A (Castellanos LF, Bauers DH) versus option B: (Castellanos DH, Bauers sits, Replacement OF)

I think there's a good chance the advantage of Jake Bauers's bat over Greg Allen's makes me choose option A.

Then, when we're ahead, you pull Castellanos late for a defensive substitution.

But hey, let's go out and get the guy first.

The Indians hang up the phone when Rhys Hoskins is not included. The Phils have no farm system.
