2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
McKenzie would have to prove he's not damaged goods before the Royals agree to deal that centered around him. The last we heard he started throwing a month ago and nothing since. Originally they said 6 weeks. Minor league ends in a little over a month so it looks like he's taking a Brady Aiken year off.

Who says no?

Whit Merrifield for Triston McKenzie, Nolan Jones, and Quentin Holmes

I would do it, McKenzie has health issues and Jones doesn't play a good defense. I know Merrifield is older, but I think he is the right fit for this roster now, and I don't 100% trust McKenzie won't end up a Salazar. Jones's floor is Chisenhall, so its a gamble of a move, but in my mind it is worth doing.

People are arguing about his age being an issue, didn't we just sign Carrasco until his age 36 season with a lot more money down? Also Merrifield is due 5 mil in his age 33 season and has a buyout for his age 34 season.

Also if you trade Bauer as well, you could replace Jones with Bohm and get a Morales/Howard, Pivetta and Damon Jones if you hate the fact we traded away our top 100 prospects. I think we can get away with moving McKenzie and Jones personally.

Is this a year we can finally get Puig?

Really cool article on 538... Seems like the Indians are in a statistical position where they should add talent and be willing to give up future talent, but not a significant sum of future talent.

What would your best offer be for Merrifield?
I am more for moving bauer for a major league ready power hitting leftfielder. A young close to major league ready 2nd baseman to replace. Kipnis and a decent pitching prospect. We have pitching depth to overcome bauers loss. Also open to including allen, bradley, naquin if it nets us more. Padres seem like a good partner. Loaded farm

What would your best offer be for Merrifield?

I wouldn't make an offer. He's not going for middling prospects and that's all I'd be willing to offer-- some combination of Bobby Bradley, Yu Chang, Sam Hentges, Will Benson, Eric Haase, Eli Morgan, etc.

Merrifield is a good player but he's not the type of guy you build a team around so he's not getting an untouchable prospect from anyone let alone two from Cleveland. I totally get the appeal but the cost is way too prohibitive, especially for an organization like the Indians who rely on a steady stream of young players, for it to be worth it.

Furthermore, if you're trading your top two prospects, why would the Indians then turnaround and trade Bauer for prospects? Like, you're all in at that point and going for a World Series Championship this season. You're never getting equal value in return compared to what you've lost so you just have to ride the wave and hope for postseason success and revisit it in the winter.

I just think there's plenty of ways for the Indians to be just as successful this season, position themselves where they can be less selective in a potential Bauer trade AND keep both Jones and McKenzie.

I have Merrifield rated way higher of an overall player. I mean the dude in 18 lead the lead in hits and SBs and is leading the league in hits right now this season. He plays a solid OF and 2B plus he hits from the Right side. He would be our leadoff guy, then Mercado, Lindor, Santana, Ramirez, that to me is a very good top 5

I just am not 100% sold on McKenzie and Jones, both have some issues in my mind, McKenzie with his injury, and with Jones his defense and his struggles against lefties. To me Freeman is our top prospect and we have a ton of talent coming up as well.
