2019 NFL Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Remember for 2 minutes last year there was the rumor that the Ravens were going to part ways with Harbaugh and the Browns would have interest?

Ugh. I wish that had been true. What a fucking coach.

You’d be surprised how unpopular he is amongst a large segment of Ravens fans. They give all the credit to the coordinators and give all the blame to Harbaugh. They hate him for keeping Cam Cameron and Dean Pees on board for too long. They don’t like his historical preference for conservative offense. They don’t like his cheesy speeches where he does ridiculous things like hold a shovel in his hand while claiming the Ravens will dig themselves out of a hole (this really happened lol).

Personally I think it’s nitpicking. He’s been remarkably consistent since his first season when Flacco was a rookie. And yea he doesn’t draw up offensive or defensive plays, but the team generally wins under him. And he shifted the style of the team on the fly to accommodate Lamar. Even his reputation as an overly conservative coach seems unfounded now in a season in which he has fully embraced analytics (he goes for it on fourth down and goes for 2 in non-traditional instances).

The moral of the story here is fans are dumb, regardless of which team they cheer for.

Kinda think Tom Brady is really slowing down. Their whole passing game is nothing but screens and short crossing routes.

Defense is carrying them hard.

Preemptive strike on the "My god does Mitch Trubisky suck" train tonignt.

His line, Marshall Newhause in particular, is dreadful this year. They miss Trent Brown badly there.

But...when your best WRs are Edelman and Dorsett, you have some real problems.

Also the Eagles are kinda wasting an otherwise good team with a really poor receiving core.

It is interesting to see the other rebuilding projects from around the league from the same year group as the Browns more or less.

By Year 2 or Year 3, SF, BUF, OAK are all knocking on that playoff door. Playing well.

Despite the Browns win over BUF one really just feels the Browns are so terribly coached.

One looks at Baltimore, the exemplar of a franchise and coaching, and they are doing so well despite what on paper should be a worse defense and pedestrian offense.

The Browns offense is fighting itself and it is a damn shame when they have the talent they do on that side of the ball. Any one of those three teams would kill to have an OBJ or Chubb.

As a fan of that team I agree with you 100%. the home run hitters were out on injury and have been for most of the season.
Wentz was looking rather ordinary and in some places BAD. Then O-Linemen started getting hurt.

It was a repeat of Buffalo's game against NE, though. Close but no cigar.

Defense played the kind of game I could die for against those turdbuckets; Eagles kept Boody out of the end zone the entire game, even when he had a short field due to Eagle turnovers. It took that dipshit Edelman on a trick play to get a TD. Boody should have been picked about 4 times, including in the end zone, TWICE on one series. Against those assholes, I'll take that defensive performance everyday.

But that offense.
I already said it about Wentz. Agholor is not meant to be the feature WR. Arcega-Whiteside is much like Agholor. He's a slot guy. Jordan Matthews is Jordan Matthews. The best receivers in this scenario are the two TEs.

a funny thing about the Eagles is that they have players named "Boston" and "Dallas", two cities whose football teams I utterly despise, and they're actually very good. Boston Scott is a decent drop-in for Darren Sproles, who I fear will actually retire for real.

As a Ravens fan, I’ve never experienced what it’s like to have a legitimately good offense. Sure we had a good offense in 2014 with Gary Kubiak. And sure the offense carried the defense in that 2012 Super Bowl run. But most years Ravens have had absolutely anemic offenses. I mean years of Kyle Boller being unable to complete a pass to anyone but Todd Heap. As a result, Ravens fans expect the bare minimum of the offense and expect the world of the defense. Like a corner misses a key tackle and it’s the end of the world on Ravens24x7 forum, but if Joe Flacco doesn’t hit himself in the face on a throw, everyone thinks he’s the second coming of Jesus. It’s so weird to have an actual dangerous offense that teams seem to be unable to stop.

It's funny you say this, because this has been my exact viewpoint of the Ravens for years. They simply gave no fucks about offense.
I also used to dump on Flacco as the example of "QBs NFL analysts are overly in love with" -- tall guys who appear to be competent.
That he was exactly that for years, and a departure from EVERYTHING I had known and accepted about the Ravens, his elevation to "LeBron James of the Ravens" among a sector of their fans made all the sense in the world. Especially when they won the Super Bowl. He actually outplayed some notable QBs.

It still is weird to think of the Ravens as being an offensive problem. I surely pegged them to regress to the mean this season. I was super wrong about that.
