2019 NFL Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching the Ravens post game stuff, pretty obvious how genuine that culture is and what they’ve built.

Culture stuff really isn’t that hard, but this is sort of where I actually believe in stuff like “it factor” comes into play.

Has nothing to do with any sort of clutch gene, but just a genuine ability to understand how winners operate and what it takes to succeed from an organizational perspective.

The Browns are lacking here.

Understatement of the fucking century.

Yeah I don't get the vibe that the team and QB are lacking in talent, ability.
I also don't get the vibe that FO is bad. (quite the opposite)

But the lack of competent coaching to build accountability, discipline and game plan correctly is killing the above.

The Ravens have a coach with a Super Bowl ring on and two lombardis greeting them in Owens Mills. They have a front office (formerly associated with the cleveland browns....) that is also class of the league.

To me (and Ravens fan do not want to admit this)? Both teams perhaps got the best QB's for their situation.

And that line I put in parenthesis? Yes. That pisses me off. Lamar on the Browns would have been a disaster. Not a knock on his talent, but rather a knock on the Browns organization.

Man Jon Gruden got shit on for trading away Mack and Cooper instead of paying them.

I didnt get why a proven NFL winner wasnt given the benefit of the doubt after only 1 season back.

But hes proving a lot of people wrong although almost no one is giving him any credit.

And also salvaging Carr and drafting a real gamer in Jacobs.

Perhaps we tend to focus on age, assume guys are dinosaurs in thought, and forget that the dude was a winning coach for a reason.

I think it was more that people questioned if a guy who had been away from the game that long would still be a viable coach, as the game has changed a great deal in the past ten years or so.

I just think of all us as fans are guilty of being over critical of our own coaches.

I know I am with Tomlin. I see Spurs fans regularly bitching about Pop.

He just deserved more time before declaring him a failure.

I mean, Gruden was a historically bad drafter in his previous stints as a HC/GM.

Ruthlessly bad, and obsessed with some of the things that seem pretty antiquated by any modern standard.

Interested to see his go forward progress, but his work there has been admirable and well beyond my expectations.

Brady should save his dignity and just hang it up after this year. Woah, he looks really washed up. Dude is definitely not playing till he's 45.
Watching your week to week swings is fascinating

it was like 2 weeks ago that you said no one could even challenge New England and Brady was the ageless wonder

I still don’t think he deserves credit yet. He got paid 100 million dollars and in year 2 they aren’t a threat to anyone.

now obviously he gets more time to build some credit, but the Raiders as of now are no threat and don’t have any brighter a future than the majority of teams in the league.

I’ve always thought Gruden was overrated and I still don’t think he even makes it half way through that contract

Thinking out loud here. Lamar Jackson. Dude is killing it, making things happen, winning, putting up points. Whatever. Is it more Lamar or is it more Romans system?
I was talking to a buddy the other day about Kaep and I remembered who his OC was and then I started thinking about this. Heard it again on Fox Sports Radio this morning.
How much is his success him or Romans system and knowing how to use him.
Could all this success get Roman a HC job this offseason???

Great question - Kaep’s performance fell off tremendously after their super bowl year IIRC. Now, he was amazing during that run, so hard to keep up that level, but the drop was big. Lost his starting QB job. Obviously defenses adjusted. Kaep didn’t.

Defenses already had the tape from last year to adjust too, and Lamar is actually getting better than before.

So I see it as a combo, but with Lamar getting more credit due to how unique he is.

I still think Lamar needs to get a lot better as a passer for this to sustain. But he’s proving my prediction of him going nowhere until he is a better passer wrong. He’s relying on his legs and passing to TEs and making it work.

"salvaging Carr" is the most commendable part of this. dude went from looking like a hero, to straight TRASH.... and now he's back to serviceable. Raiders are, too. Gotta give it up to Gruden.

@Triple-S is 100% correct about Lamar on the Browns.
Which is why it pisses me soooooo much about Baker. The system is holding him back.
(I also think something similar is happening with Wentz. Eagles have been injury ridden, but Groh vs. Reich isn't even a discussion. Reich worked magic in Philly and Indianapolis.)
