2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
coby white - 16.0 pts, 41.7% fg, 34.7% 3pt fg, 5.2 rebs, 5.1 assists
tyler herro - 16.4 pts, 44.2% fg, 35.2 3pt fg, 5.9 rebs, 3.7 assists
darius garland - 16.1 pts, 43.5% fg, 37.2 3pt fg, 2.3 rebs, 5.9 assists

not a lot separating the 3 players in their second season. coby white is a case of grass looking green, tyler herro landed in a good situation and took advantage of it. so... not clear yet if we missed out on herro by drafting garland instead.

He doesn't score, he can't create his own shot, he's shooting 30% from deep, and he doesn't have any assists. Until his offensive game develops he needs to contribute as a defender and rebounder (which is part of defense).

41% over the past 6 games.

The only guys from the 2019 draft selected after Garland that I feel are superior talents are Keldon Johnson (who was just bad at Kentucky and fell to 29) and KPJ (we all know how that turned out). Herro has become seriously overrated after one good playoff series and White is a dime a dozen gunner that's probably a bench player long-term. Weird players to feel bad about missing out on.

That draft was just depressing overall. Garland, while a long way away, has shown flashes that he can become a quality starting point guard if he can put it all together. A worthy gamble for Koby & co. despite the potentially awkward fit next to Sexton. At least we didn't trade De'Andre Hunter for Jaxson Hayes & Nickeil Alexander-Walker...

Show Coby White and his 0.3 SPG in 33.3 MPG. How is it possible for a NBA guard to play 33.3 MPG and only average 0.3 SPG. I'm still dumbfounded when I saw that.

Yeah I agree and think Herro is one of the more overrated young players in the league. He’s also a pretty bad defender. Shooting 44 and 35% from the 3 as like a 7th 8th man on a really good team is not nearly as difficult as running a team as a starting point guard as Garland is being asked to do.

Garland also has to go against starting 5s whilst Herro gets to go against second units

I also believe Garland was shooting around 46/47 % until a recent stretch of bad games

Tyler Herro
Coby White as well.....
Player A:
16.0 ppg 5.1 apg 2.5 TO
.500 eFG% .533 TS%

Player B:
16.1 ppg 5.9 apg 2.9 TO
.491 eFG% .517 TS%

Player C:
16.4 ppg 3.7 apg 2.5 TO
.516 eFG% .541 TS%

All three guys are very poor defensively (although Garland does have more steals than the other two combined) and playing approximately the same amount of minutes... I'm not really seeing a standout from the group. In fact, they are startlingly similar in terms of production.

EDIT: @ryanf beat me to the punch
