2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
for me the biggest regret is not getting to see KP w/Allen, Okoro and Garland feeling himself. I think we'd know exactly where the Cavs were heading if he had been in a better place emotionally.

When that trade (for Allen) went down I felt like you could see where things were going. And then as quickly as it happened, *poof*

I'm sure Cade Cunningham would cure a lot of ills, but the chances aren't good that we get that pick.
Yeah. I was thinking of the type of players we need and sort of thought about Austin Rivers for a second and these two posts made me realize we had the perfect player who could’ve played with sexton, Garland and Okoro and was strong enough to guard multiple positions. I agree that Cade probably has some of those same qualities and is bigger but he is a very different player from KPJ, obviously it’s a wait and see and a lot of people on this board don’t seem to like his game. KPJ and one more guy would’ve really propelled the rebuild, especially with what we have right now.

The Thunder’s tank over the last few weeks is so brutal that I’m a a little surprised the NBA is letting them get away with it. On the other hand, with no fans allowed in OKC, they are choosing the best time to do it.
Assuming all those injuries are legit they're not tanking. They decided to rebuild and got hit with a lot of injuries at the same time. Sending Horford home is the only evidence of tanking and they can justify that by saying they need to use the rest of this year to get young guys experience for the future.

There's no point in continuing the tanking discussion. As for now there are five teams with worse winning percentages than the Cavs. Right above them are the Thunder, who are in free fall having lost 8 of 9, and Toronto who have lost 15 of 18. The Cavs have Love, Delly, and Prince back, Hartentstein is contributing, and they should be adding Allen and Nance soon. Half their remaining schedule is against teams in the bottom half of the standings.

I don't see any way the Cavs do NOT pass OKC and Toronto and finish with the eighth worst record. There's a small chance they could even pass the Kings, although 2.5 games in the standings won't be easy.

If you've been paying any attention to what Bickerstaff has been saying there's no chance he's telling them to lose. Just the fact that they're playing Love and Delly proves they're trying to win every game. If would be easy to keep them both on the bench and play guys like Thomas and Stevens while claiming they're working on "development" for the future.

The Cleveland Cavaliers got the #1 pick 3 times in 4 years *after* also getting the #1 pick to draft Lebron James. To say they don't have Lottery Luck is beyond disingenuous. What has happened since is just the odds evening out.

Yes, I want a top pick every year, too (this year more than most) but its not likely to happen; regardless of the final record. Vegas always wins. We ain't Vegas.

A little bit of dissonance to say that tanking teams like the Thunder need to be held accountable but also the Cavs need to tank??

We're coming off a 5 game losing streak during which we lost to the Kings at the buzzer and got throttled by about 50 points against Utah.

I'm going to enjoy the wins we get. Seeing our team actually play well is far more important to me than a few extra ping pong balls in the lottery.

If we end up picking 7-8-9, so be it. We're not going to go straight from a bottom 3 team to a solid playoff team; there has to be some time spent in the middle.

This is a pretty deep draft at least through the lottery and even later in the first round. Personally, I'd like to see them add Cade, Suggs or Green, but in the end Giddey could turn out better than Cade, Springer better than Suggs, and Moody better than Green. Not to mention guys like Wagner, Barnes and Johnson. We should get a good player wherever we draft. The success of this rebuild, IMO, will depend on guys like Sexton, Garland, Allen and Okoro becoming the best NBA players they can possibly be. It seems obvious that playing with guys like Love and Delly - players who allow us to run a complete, competent, offense - helps the younger guys get better. That's a good thing IMO.

Wherever we end up picking, there will be at least one guy on the board who will turn out well. Let's find the one that will help us the most.

Get 20 wins. That's all I care about. Tired of these 19 win seasons LOL

The good thing about the upcoming draft is the wealth of talent available. Cade maybe #1, but all lottery picks can make their case. Even if we fall 7-9, scottie barnes or jalen johnson fills holes in the roster and both looks like top 3-5 players in another year's draft. We shouldn't be worried. The winning culture is more important than sucking for ping pong balls.

the best team in the NBA this year is built around mid and late round picks and a strong organizational culture.

Since Embry and the 80's/90's team, the Cavs have always needed the top of the draft picks to cover the fact that the organization has been somewhat sick. I hope we are in a different place now, but it is worrisome that at the top of the org chart is Dan Gilbert with reports of his kid rising as well. Dan's got his pluses and minuses, but from the outside looking in, a strong basketball culture doesn't seem to emanate from the team a'la a Utah or Milwaukee or San Antonio or Miami.

I think this will be answered this summer. Not really worried if owners just act as owners. If the younger gilbert wants to be GM, then we have a problem.

Sit everyone.

This is not a joke. Teams are tanking hard right now and the Cavs are far behind. This team is hopeless without a top 5 talent. It is what it is.

I don't fucking care at this point.

We've literally had two straight seasons picking a top 5 talent.

The goal is to win ball games.

Go win ball games.

People need to calm down about the winning.

That OKC team is talentless. Worst team in the league currently on paper.

SA without Murray is also bad.

But....they're playing and winning EXACTLY how anyone who likes the team should want.

It isn't a defensive scrapfest led by Nance and Drummond.

It's with Garland running the show, Sexton totally changing his game to attack off the ball, and Okoro gaining confidence. This is without their two best vets.

If they keep playing like this is totally changes the course of the franchise and who the Cavs should be thinking about picking. Because suddenly, with Sexton willing to cut and move and finish, he and Garland look compatible longterm.
