2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
disappointing dylan is probably the one for me. kpj's situation was already brewing even before the season started, but dylan just isn't as advertised, both on shooting and durability.

i'll also add cedi to that list. him becoming the nba's worst player is totally unexpected.

Windler got hurt, and the limited number of shots he took this season -- 77 -- is far too few to conclude he isn't a good shooter. Not in the face of years of play showing otherwise, and especially given the problems with his knee.

He gets another chance next season. If his knee recovers, then we'll get to see what he looks like healthy, if it doesn't then he's a wasted pick. But I don't think it is fair in his case to conclude that talent rather than health is the key issue.

If there’s one thing that’s clear looking back at this season, it’s that Koby nailed the rebuild
Things are looking a little shaky at the moment but he can still redeem himself if he lucks into a legit #1 franchise type player in this upcoming draft. Hope springs everlasting here on RCF! Go Cavs!

1. Who would you draft at #1 for the Cavs if we win the lottery?
2. In case the Cavs get an offer for either of Sexton, Garland, or Okoro where we receive a mid first-rounder (11-20) in 2021 and some extra, would you accept that? In whose case you are most likely to accept that offer, Garland, Sexton, or Okoro? Who would you target with that pick?
3. What sort of contract would you offer to Allen? If you get to draft Mobley, Şengün, or Petrušev - would you still consider extending Allen?

Love is immovable, and probably won't be bought out in the coming season.

Dylan Windler being a total non-contributor was a blow.

I liked the way he moved around the court and rebounded the ball.

But..he was bad. He's not a good shooter, he can't stay healthy, and he has the yips.

There's still hope. He was too good of a shooter in college for it to not translate and one would hope that continuing NBA-level strength and conditioning will help mitigate his glassiness.

And if he does get hit shooting and durability fixed, he's a massive asset on any team. Doesn't make bad plays, pesky defender, rebounding are all icing on the 3 point threat cake.

The problem is the shooting issues are related to having the yips. He rushes himself and either he grows out of that or he's just gonna be out of the league real fast.

Yeah, but that's true for pretty much any rookie who enters the league with injury issues. They don't get to where they are without forming a mindset of resilience and repetition. Now that has to translate to the pros. Besides, I don't think you can judge Windler's "yip" status on such a small sample size. Him and Okoro both seemed to be unsure of when and where they should shoot. Okoro has been healthy enough to figure it out...figure it out more, at least.

Windler's ceiling, to me, is a solid contributor off the bench. So I gauge my disappointment by that measure.

some players need to play heavy minutes to get into a rhythm and I bet Dylan is one of them. in a starting role he would be good but as a bench player not so sure I see it hapn'

Adjusting to coming off the bench is a big issue with some players. The fact you made an NBA roster likely means you’ve never come off the bench in your entire life. Starters have the luxury of getting going right after warmups and letting the game come to them because they are going to get lots of minutes. Coming off the bench means you are expected to get in rhythm and be productive the moment you hit the floor, sometimes after sitting for 30 minutes or more. I think some guys, especially shooters, struggle with it for a while.

Sexton, I would trade for two firsts.. I might consider trading Sexton and a first for a super wing..

No on Okoro , and no on garland..

Hang on... so right now, today, you would trade Sexton before Okoro? Based on all the times Okoro is triple teamed in the paint? Or his barrel full of 25 pt games? Or maybe because Sexton is too short for his position, and IO fits the mold?

Look, I like the strides IO is taking, but I just don't understand the mentality of trading your best player- a guy you know is good - for a *chance* at a slightly taller version of the same freaking guy.

...I'm just not getting it.

It's like fans want some sexy, prototype 6'-6" superstar SG to walk in the door. That player probably doesn't exist and even if he did would probably run for the exit as soon as he could. Meanwhile Sexton is a really good player who likes playing here. He might already be a top 10 SG in this league.
These are the same guys that would trade in their super cute GF because she wasn't Gisele (who btw wouldn't give them a 2nd look if she walked past them on the street).

The issue isn't just Sexton, it's Sexland -- from a defensive perspective, can we take a backcourt of those two undersized guys together? And now that Garland is looking better, would we really want to trade him instead of Sexton? Or can we keep both and do something in the frontcourt to address defensive issues?

Whatever the answer, Okoro isn't it.
