2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Snell hardly played for Atlanta and averaged 5.3 ppg. I think there’s an aversion to overpaying someone, who isn’t all that good, just to sign someone.
He's not going to beat out Hunter, Boggy, Huerter or Reddish for wing minutes.
However, Cedi, Lamar, Thomas, Dotson & Windler might be a low enough bar to get into that 25-26 mpg realm.

Who said anything about overpaying him?

Somebody said “not even for the vet minimum”

He played over 20 mpg for most of the year. He’s a competent basketball player. We need more competent basketball players. We currently have none on the wing.

Last season was his best season in terms of efficiency, but he only took 3.6 FGAs, and 2.3 3-point attempts, per game in 21 mpg. His career numbers are far worse. That's a guy protecting his percentages. He's not a good defender so if he's shooting that little, how is he actually helping you on the floor?

I think if the Cavs really do intend on having Sexton/DG shoot 6-8 3’s a game then a solid, reliable shooter makes sense for the current team. They don’t need to be high volume.

I also don’t understand the aversion to Tony Snell.

He was the most effective catch and shoot guy in the league last year, isn’t inept defensively, and has good wing size.

Who exactly are people holding out for? Kawhi? :chuckle:

Snell will be 30 this year and is more of a sg than sf but he is 6'7 so that probably doesnt matter.

Honestly he is the type of player we need, but I think he is the type that will go to LA to fill out the roster on a 1 year vet min deal and then turn around and get one last decent contract.

I wouldnt hate Snell, but between age and if he is going to take vet min, why Cleveland over a team with championship asperations?

He’s been 40%+ for like the last five years. I don’t think his shooting is in question here.

He hardly played for an ECF team that is 5-6 deep on the wing. That’s not a death knell.
The best example is he played for a (not very good) Detroit squad in 2019-20 and averaged 28 mpg. He averaged 8 ppg, 1.9 rpg, & 2.2 apg on .598 TS%.

Snell reminds me of a very poor man’s version of Wesley Person. The guy can shoot pretty well, but he’s not getting quality minutes on a winning ball club.

Are we questioning if Snell is a good shooter? Question the ability to guard bigger SF's with his rail thin body, but dont question his shooting, that is the one thing Snell has got.

And i am calling my shot right now....Snell to Lakers. They need like 10 vet min guys, he will be one of them.

Snell played about 1,000 minutes last year for Atlanta who made the playoffs and won a couple of series. He didnt play a ton in the playoffs, but 9 games, 66 minutes, he contributed.

You cant count on Snell to win you games, but he is solid on a vet min, I think he is the type of player a winning team fills out their roster with for the vet min. I feel the opposite about him honestly.

He's basically a poor man's Prince. When his shot isn't falling, he's not a net positive player and last year he shot a lot less.

He’s not really who I’d want, but he’d be fine on a vet minimum contract.

Haven't his shooting percentages been as good or better than Prince's for like the last 4-5 years?

I'd love to bring in Will Barton as a vet to push the guys, but I have no idea what he was thinking opting out of 14 million. Is some team really going to throw cash at him?
