2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can't remember where I heard that, but yeah, apparently it was a thing.

I did a quick search to see if I could find anything to back it up. While I couldn't, I did find this gem of a review of the 2011 Draft.

On Klay Thompson, the writer, a presumably nice man named Andy Bailey, said: "Klay Thompson saw his draft stock skyrocket over the last couple weeks, and I think Golden State may have fallen into a trap here. They have a wealth of wings and guards, and would have been better off reaching for a big here. Grade: C"

I'm guessing Andy Bailey would like that one back.

The Cavs were definitely interested. They took his brother instead. I did hear that they thought #4 was too high for him. It would have been considered a major reach at the time.

Obviously, having Klay would have been awesome, but I wonder what the downstream effects of that would be. Thompson was crucial to the championship, but is GS even there without Klay? Would the Cavs have taken Drummond instead of Dion? Wild to think about. What if the Cavs took Klay and they never win it all? Maybe they don't get 2 #1's in a row in that case, or we need to include Klay to get Love.

Right, it changes the course of events from that point forward.

At a minimum, I'd suspect that the Cavs wouldn't have gambled on Waiters the following year, and would have instead used that pick on Drummond, Barnes, or T-Rob.

I think Grants draft strategy would have gotten in the way of talent and changing the course of history. He wanted a front and back court player in each draft, he stated multiple times in post draft press conferences and windy confirmed it. I don't know if he understood where the NBA was evolving to. TT was seen as a PG for a while by the organization. They drafted Zeller to be the center. Bennett was drafted in hopes he could play SF. Grant didn't seem to want wing players. He also didn't want to draft more than 2 players a year because he didn't think they could develop more than that.

Welp I expect to see Windler back on the injured list very soon if Bickerstaff is actually considering to play him at the 4. Might as well give Prince some minutes there. This team needs to draft a 3/4 to add to this group. There should be several available in the next draft.

With 3 centers right now, why would you play Windler at the 4?

Because you can't play him at the 5?

:chuckle:

he's thinking of an offense spread out with Sexland/Windler and either Okoro or Cedi playing with a rim running big man like Allen. all teams are using small ball line ups now, it's match up driven. Obviously when Anthony Davis and Marc Gasol are out there, you don't put Windler at the 4.

I agree - he's likely talking situational small ball.
