2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A severe sprain could take a long time.

Tough luck for Windler. I thought Hayward took him out of the air. You'd think a guy who had his injury would have made a play on the ball instead of taking a rookie out of the air. Preying on the weak is part of his belief system, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

What makes Drummond so frustrating is not that he is skill less or without talent.

He just stubbornly tries to be so much more than he is and more than makes sense for how basketball is played in 2020

If he just gave consistent effort on both ends and only did the 3-4 things he’s good on at offense, he could be a plus player, even dominant in some situations.

It’s honestly such a waste and so frustrating
It’s just crazy to me he doesn’t realise he’d actually get paid more by doing less

Drummond is an extremely mobile big. He can beat most down the floor and he knows that.. his handles are good for a 7 footer. I am ok if he wants to do more than post up. He has to recognize the center that can only play 6 feet from the rim is a thing of the past.. So he is going to push his envelope.. I also think he will get more effective in time as our guys figure out how and where to get him the ball.

Needs to add things own at a time as he works on them. He is ADD about it trying to improve everything at once while half adding his improvement.

That said I still like what he brings and Darius and Collin were able to take advantage.

Drummond still had a -2 after giving up like 25 to Rozier

The games are going to start coming fast and furious. I think I counted 23 games between now and Feb 1.
I don't know what Porter Jrs status is but the way injuries are starting to mount up I hope they can get him going this weekend.
They need him.

This. Drummond is simply trying to adjust to the modern NBA. He's trying to show the coaching staff what he can do as a playmaker. I like what I've seen out of him in that regard.

It will be interesting to see how his approach to the game changes as we go through the season and he gets more familiar with his teammates. The Cavs scored 121 last night without Love and Porter. Drummond only scored 14 of those points. He can't fail to see that this team is deep with guys who can score. Seven double-digit scorers last night with no Love or Porter.

He has to realize he won't be getting 20 shots a night. Heck, last night he only played 27 minutes. For his career he's averaging 31.0 minutes and last year he averaged nearly 34.

He publicly stated his goal is to be Defensive POY. He should focus on defense and let his points come within the flow of the offense and when he gets a mismatch. Last night he was working effectively in the low post against Biyombo, who is 3 inches shorter and 24 pounds lighter. Drummond was able to muscle his way to the rim for some easy buckets.

If we play teams who want to put five interchangeable players out there who are all 6'6"-6'8" then Drummond is going to abuse whoever gets him.

Is it possible that the reason he took so many shots was because Love was out? Seems to me that the coaches might tell him to do just that to maintain offensive balance. It's like, if your star running back is out, you still have to run the ball occasionally to keep the defense honest, so to speak.

Maybe I'm off base here, but I'd like to see if Drummond does that again this year with Love in the lineup getting his touches too.

The ball movement was superb, I hope it stays like this. Very Miami Heat like. One possession where the ball was flying around included a quick Drummond pass which ended up with an Okoro assist to Garland for 3. Beautiful basketball.

It was just one game and Charlotte looks absolutely horrible... But it was clear indication to me that we need to see what we can get for Drummond and Love sooner rather than later.

Nance, Wade, McGee they all played their role, moved the ball and most importantly hustled and went full out. We have two players now who don't fit the latter criteria. They're vets so I think there is some positive they bring off the court to the team, but our identity needs to be engraved 1 through 17.

Plus I think Nance and Wade could benefit from more opportunity.

We have lots of positives going for us from our young guys improving, the coaching staff conducting strong player development, a modern selfless identity building... I think a very solid Drummond/Love trade could further improve that. No rush, but I'd prefer it happen by the trade deadline. Even trading them for solid vets like McGee would be good.

Have another nice draft and we could be cooking.

Looking at next yr's FA crop, we need to seriously consider money-hatting Jarrett Allen and force the Nets to either pay up or let him walk. John Collins is another candidate but that guy would get matched in a heartbeat. Even if it's for the Hawks to move him after.

The Drummond experiment at least proved us that we play much better with a big body defender down low (preferably someone moderately mobile) and on offense a capable passer really clicks our ball movement. Drummond can pass as bad as his BBIQ is, even Javale is attempting a bunch of passes. If we could get someone that defends, is a capable rim protector and a good passer we'd be golden.

Mobley is the picture perfect fit obviously, but who could be the guys who are already in the league? Steven Adams is a name I keep thinking of. I wanted Turner in the off-season coz of his shooting, but now I think a passer would do much more for us.
