2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In terms of trading either Drummond or McGee, I'd prefer to trade with a team in the West. That way, it wouldn't have the potential to bite us in the ass until the Finals.

:chuckle:

There's something back-assward about folks looking at a specific team like the Nets and wondering "how can we get them Javale McGee", rather than looking at the entirety of the NBA and wondering who would give us the most for him.

Even if no one else wants him, which I doubt, we don't have to trade him. I would rather keep him as insurance against injuries than trade him to the Nets for a second round pick or one of their bench scrubs that would never see the floor here.

Of course you maximize trade value. The reality is Javale’s trade value is a second round pick at best. A team like the Nets in win now mode may be the best bet to get a second. That’s certainly not thinking how to get them McGee. It’s about maximizing your asset with a desperate team. Think Jiri Welsch. Have to think like a GM and not a fan.

Javale's value is second round pick at best? really? and that's how we maximize an asset from a desperate team.. interesting.

If that's the case, then i'd rather hold on to JaVale.

So we're trading McGee to a team that already has three superstars but desperately needs a big man to eat some minutes. And we're going to help them fill that need so they can make a championship run.

Exactly how good would you expect that second round pick to be?

The Nets are a terrible trading partner because they shot their wad to acquire Harden. Nets honks and bad journalists are going to push that trade because they see that the Nets have a major need, and they'll just assume the Cavs will cooperate.

Yeah, I wouldn't trade McGee for just a second round pick. There will be injuries and some bigger teams that will allow him to play (the Nets are pretty small outside of Jordan) and I'd like to think that being around this team and coaching staff for a full year might give us a leg up on resigning him once Drummond walks. Of course, having a winning trajectory would help.

McGee, to the right team, is worth *several* 2nd rounders, at worst and a 1st rounder, at best. Portland, Sacramento, Clippers, *maybe* Dallas, are all teams id look at before Brooklyn.

Id also try to maximize the value on Drummond and flip him while he's putting up really good numbers (perhaps to the same teams i mentioned for McGee), then keep McGee and try to resign him to backup JA. Those 2 would be a really good center rotation for me.

Just a quick digression here - I didn't realize just how much it affects me until we bought a vacation home (on the beach in NC). This time of the year, the highs range from the high 40s to the 60s. So it is warmer than Cleveland, but not *that* much warmer -- it's not like you're going around in swimsuits this time of the year. But most of the days there are sunny, and that makes all the difference in the world. Again, I didn't appreciate how much of a difference it makes until seeing it for myself.

Yeah where I'm at in NC the coldest it ever gets is around thirty degrees, but most of the winter it's in the fifties and sunny during the day and only gets cold at night. It maybe snows twice a year if that. This year, it's not looking like it's going to snow at all, but I guess we've still got another month or so for it to happen if it's going to.

On Tuesday it's supposed to get up to almost seventy. In January.

Much though I enjoy Cleveland, I could never live there. A foot of snow on the ground for weeks at a time? Fuck that. Give me the city that shuts down completely at even the slightest threat of snow. :chuckle:

If one of Drummond or Allen gets hurt later in the season and the Cavs are looking down the bench at Thon Maker because they traded McGee for the 58th pick in the 2024 draft, I wouldn't say they maximized their asset.

It’s not Drummond the player, it’s Drummond the contract that’s less desired than McGee.
Figuring out how to match a $27 million contract without hamstringing future salary flexibility is the bigger challenge.
