2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whelp listeners of the pod know I was high on trying to acquire him as a fill in SS. Also seems to point to some of what I heard that the angels aren't in on a rental of Lindor.

The Atlanta Braves have non-tendered outfielder Adam Duvall, sources tell ESPN. The 29-year-old, who is coming off a 16-homer season in 57 games, is now a free agent.
I am mildly interested in Duvall as a FA signing.. Could be an interesting roster piece & depth for corner OF & 1B...

The following players were not tendered contracts for the 2021 season, making them free agents:

OF Delino DeShields
OF Tyler Naquin
RHP Jefry Rodriguez

The remaining unsigned members of the 40-man roster were tendered 2021 contracts. The 40-man roster is at 37 players.

Interesting to see Jefry Rodriguez on the list...
Perhaps JRod's injury issues last season were more serious then any of us fans realized...

That gets them down to 26 out of 30. Trading Lindor should put them at the bottom.

Was Naquin a shock?

Will be interesting what they do w 37 .... doubt they sign significant FA which couldnt be had with minor league ST invite. Thus, they keep room for 3-1 Lindor trade or take Rule 5 flier. Otherwise, why not protect Oviedo?

Good. Won’t miss either of Deshields or Naquin. They’re not producers on a winning team.

Its too late to add a player to the 40 man & protect the player from the R5.
That said, the Tribe could do what the Braves years ago & draft one of their own players....

David Dahl wasn't tendered by the Rockies, which is kinda shocking. I know the Indians really wanted him in the draft a few years ago and have checked in on his availability in the past. He was an All-Star in 2019. Has had injury issues. Wouldn't be surprised if the Indians get involved here.... Only 26 years old too.

Fuck, he's good when he's healthy.

A few more thoughts...

1) I dont know, but I wonder if the present situation, with a flood of soon to be free agents, makes Rule Five acquisitions less likely. There are gonna be a lot of cheap players with track records that are much more likely to produce than any R5 flier.

2) No surprise that Naquin and Deshields have been jettisoned. Neither have much value and can easily be replaced with next to minimal cost.

3) With the recent acquisition of multiple SPs, all with ticking clocks, the cutting of JRod makes sense.

4) The sudden availability of Dahl is a surprise to me. The kid can hit, until 2020 always has, and was an elite prospect. Even with the usual Coors Field caveat, he is worth a hard look by a lot of teams. I hope the Indians are one of them.
