Marcel Ozuna has resigned with the Atlanta Braves.. one more FA off the markets..

W/R to the Tribe 26 man payroll and Trevor Bauer.. about $ 9 MM more by the tribe..
With respect to Bauer and the rest of the recent Indians pitchers Gson. May not be the best, but he sure is going to be the one with the highest career earnings.

His impact on the club and the rest of the pitching staff cannot be measured soley by WAR.. and you've been a strong advocate of understanding that..

Great deal for Bauer. Great deal for the Union. Great deal for the mega market teams. Bad for MLB.

Most players have intangible qualities that add or subtract from their tangible production.

Bauer has both.

Heyman is reporting the Red Sox are in serious talks to trade Benintendi.. the Royals were mentioned, but not confirmed... we'll see..

Edit: Heyman has now confirmed that the Royals and Red Sox have reached a preliminary agreement.. no further word on the return or any pending requirements for the trade to go through.. we'll see..

Edit # 2: Fansided's Bob Murray is saying the deal is a three way with the mets involved...

Edit #3: The deal is being held up for medical records checking and pending commissioner manfred's approval as there is a pile of money going someplace for one of the three someones including Boston, KC and the Mets..

Sounds like Boston is going to pay Mr Sherman for a young SP from the Royals.. We'll see..

Final Edit: Franchy Cordero goes to the Mets.. Kahlil Lee goes to the Red Sox and Andrew Benintendi goes to the Royals.. Money and some more prospects will be included when the deal is fully finalized.. Interesting..

To make roster space due to the 3 way trade on Weds night, the NYMets have DFAd Ali Sanchez (C).
I know very little about this guy.... Is he someone the Tribe should pursue for Catching depth to have at Columbus??

Always a lot of confusion when this kind of trade is first reported.

Sorting thru it all after the official announcement...

Boston gets Cordero from KC, Windows from the Mets, and three PTBNLs...one from the Mets, two from KC.

KC gets Benintendi and $2.8 mil from Boston.

Mets get Khalil Lee from KC.

Lee is a top 100 OF...45 FV...23 in June, close to MLB ready.

Winkowski is a non prospect pitcher, also 23 in June.

Since Boston's 40 man is full, it may take some time to know all the PTBNLs.

******************

I'm interested in the PBTNL the Mets are giving up. Its gotta be at least decent. So far they have gained a top 100 near MLB ready OF for a non prospect pitcher.

******************

The two KC PBTNLs from KC will be interesting, too.

What they have given up so far are the equivalent of Mercado and Johnson/Owen Miller.

Possibly as an NRI.. he's not really any better than what is on the roster currently, but you're correct in keeping an eye out for catchers as potential MiLB / NRI's....

Sanchez at one time was a highly thought of international signing, but injuries and a total lack of offense have ended his prospect status. Defensively, he has some plusses, but controlling the run game is not one of them.

I can't figure out how and why the Mets ended up in the Benintendi trade, unless their PTBNL is a knockout.

But according to all the reports the PBTLs will all be chosen from the lower levels of the two farm systems.

To get involved as a third team, you have to have a targeted player/prospect as the sine qua non for one of the other teams, in this case Boston. But the young pitcher they are getting, Winkowski, is virtually a non prospect. He is listed as 26th in a weak Mets system, and their 13th pitching prospect.

In the last fangraphs prospect list of the Jays, posted a week before Toronto shipped him to NY, Winckowski wasnt even listed among the Jays 39 prospects. He was mentioned as 'depth piece' without enough talent to even rate a FV.
Basically, organizational filler.

Surely, Winckowski can't be a targeted prospect, unless the Red Sox org is stooooopid. Plus, how could he be considered equal value for what KC gave the Mets, a real live top 100 outfielder within a year of being MLB ready?

Imagine us trading Daniel Johnson for a fifteenth round draft choice. Thats what this looks like.

There are several paths the Mets and Royals may take to fill their PTBNL obligations to the Red Sox.. Both the Mets (1) and the Royals (2) clearly received guys who have ability beyond the "PTBNL" status that they will provide to the Red Sox..

-One way might be through recent IFA signings:

Example 1.. Johairo Cuevas or Gustavo Marquez could be who the Mets will be sending, pending a review by the Red Sox scouts on who they prefer..

Example 2.. Two of Daniel Vazquez, Diego Guzman, Angel Parra and/or Sebastian Ramirez may be who the Red Sox will be scouting as the compensation.

-Another way might involve a deal "already" in the works where either the Mets or the Royals acquire a player/prospect that they then send to the Red Sox..

Guessing is all that we have for now..

This is 2nd time I have heard this, can it even be done? I would think the specific list is provided at time of trade, pick 1 of 3 (on your team at time) or take $150,000 in cash; otherwise, you can get into issues on what really meant. Would a deal actually say we get a reds prospect that mets trade for? If there is specific name given, does Boston leak it so Reds demand more as deal isnt done yet? What if, the initial deal falls through for a low level guy. A month later Mets decide to trade for Hunter Greene. Does Boston then get this PTBNL to fulfill a player from reds system?

Just dont see it working. More like our CC trade, allow more time to scout. Other issues may not apply now, a recent draft pick not able to be traded till later or last year needs to be on the 60 player list trade rule.
