2020 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This feels similar to losing Pryor's senior season, except this is even worse.

This team was destined for greatness. Pretty much a certainty of a Big 10 title and playoff appearance, gone.

And we all have to live with that bullshit Clemson loss for another year.

Fucking sucks.

This really sucks. Leaving out reasons why we are where we are, this is going to be a tough pill to swallow not being able to experience this collection of players going through this season. This was a championship level roster for sure.

Sucks we only get to watch one year of Justin Fields.

I think the push by players and parents to let them play gives an off chance that power 5 conferences might figure out something.

Will players agree to put themselves into a bubble for the whole season to play?

I've said this before, universities are perfectly set up to create bubbles on their campus and most power 5 schools have the ability to put together their own testing on campus. The biggest obstacle is safely getting the visiting team to the games each week.

Not sure how they can go through all these hoops and still call themselves amateurs.

I don't know either or how universities could justify putting the football team in a bubble to play but leave out the rest of fall sports to possibly in the spring.

I also think guys playing in the spring would be more complex than just the NFL draft. If Trevor Lawrence sits out, wouldn't Justin Fields and OSU's chance to win a national championship jump considerably?

Justin Fields ain’t playing a spring season either.

I think Fields had a good 1st season but I don't think it was good enough to just sit out the season. Being the preseason #2 QB even if he is mocked at being the #2 pick is still a huge unknown. A #2 preseason QB can easily get passed up by a couple other QBs and then drop multiple rounds. I don't believe his one year of tape would be enough for NFL teams to make him unquestionable the #2 QB and a 1st round pick. My guess is he will hear from teams that they want him to play and show that he has progressed.

Also just rookie pay scale for a 1st round pick is motivation to play in the spring. The #2 pick got a total contract of 34.6 million and a signing bonus of 22.7 while the #32 got 10.8 million and 5.4 million.

Idk, 1 year of tape was good enough for Haskins and I think Fields was better than Haskins.

I think there is a difference between putting up 1 year of tape then going out to the NFL vs putting up one year of tape then sitting a year. I think teams will start questioning alot more about Fields. They like to see progress in QBs. Maybe it isn't enough to drop him out of the 1st round but the difference between #2 and #32 is alot of money.

I think teams and agents will tell him to play himself into a top position vs sitting on the tape he has made. I think someone like Trevor Lawrence is in a very different position than Fields.

No chance in hell he plays in the Spring, nor should he.

Honestly think there'd be a better chance (though, still very low) that he'd stay and play in the fall of 2021.

It has been nice to see OSU players, families, coaches, etc so unanimously outspoken about wanting to play. Very cool. Hope they keep it up.

Over 30 college football players have already opted out of a fall season. If the season gets moved to the spring expect that number to go up dramatically. Anyone who believes that they’re going to get drafted won’t play, especially if the NFL timeline remains the same. Playing a spring NCAA season then going straight into the NFL draft, summer camp, and NFL fall season is a recipe for disaster. Fields “sitting out” of a spring season won’t be looked at poorly by NFL teams as it will be the norm for any top 150 prospect.

I hope they find a way to play like signing liability waivers or something. I don't think it's going to make that much of an impact on presidents of all the universities in the power 5. OSU's operating budget as a university as a whole is 7.5 billion while the athletics bring in 200 million in revenue.

I hope there is a real conversation to find a way to play but that will be the players being screwed over more in general with doing more for nothing. A full or partial liability waiver might be enough. At this point I can't see presidents agreeing to fans at any stadium, that dream should have gone away a while ago though.
