living in the Boston area, I can confirm the trashing by the media portion.

I disagree, I wouldnt be surprised if the mathemagicians in the BoSox FO saw that report someone posted a week or two ago about Graterol having top 'stuff' according to an algorithm, took a peek at his baseball-reference.com page and got enamored. Now that they actually laid eyes on him they weren't as impressed, and realized they were screwing the pooch with their future and fans by dealing their team's heart and soul for a reliever and 4th OFer. Frankly i like it, the Dodgers were getting an absolute steal.

Verdugo was a 3 WAR OFer in 100 games. He's not a 4th OFer. Hes a starting CFer or RFer depending on the team.

Also you tend to get screwed when your making the deal solely to cut salary and get under the Luxury Tax which is what Bostons owner told the front office they had to do.

This is just a bad look for Boston and gonna turn a lot of teams off from making a deal with them in the future. Teams are certainly taking note of the shady behaviour Red Sox are displaying.

Wish it worked out as well for the Cavaliers as it did for Redsox. Redsox got a top 50 prospect in Downs + a catching spec instead of Brusdar Graterol.

The cash considerations accompanying Maeda in the deal are valued at $10 million, per sources. That could offset most or all of Maeda's financial obligations for the 2020 season for the Twins, which could afford the club additional financial flexibility to make moves at the Trade Deadline if needed.

Maeda's incentive-laden contract guarantees him a base salary of $3 million with a $150,000 bonus for making the Opening Day roster. He can earn up to $10 million each season in performance bonuses based on games started and innings pitched. Maeda is under team control through the 2023 season.


I put the one part in bold as it answers earlier questions of mine: what are contract incentives & how much..
Assuming Maeda is starting for the Twins, that contract might not be as friendly as people once thought..

I think this trade works out better for the Twins..
Theystill get Maeda (very workable as #3) & money for the contract.

Gaterol (similar to Clase) now bullpen help for LAD..

Twins basically get Maeda for 500k a year + Incentives for next 4 years depending on how the money is divided. They did trade a comp pick with 1 M slot value. Which for draft bonus pools thats a healthy amount added to a bonus pool. Seems like Minny did better for now but will hurt them come draft time. Which when your trying to win now which Twins are thats likely not important to them.
