2020 Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No single player in this draft is going to improve our overall defensive profile alone. If our defense improves it will mainly be because of the defensive improvements of the current players on the roster. It won't be because we drafted a defensive minded player. This is like arguing for drafting MKG in 2012 because our defense sucked.

Vassell would improve our Defense tomorrow. Okoro might as well. You can get defense from a rookie wing, not from a rookie big man.

With Okoro best case scenario is Jimmy Butler, worse case scenario we’ve got ourselves another Shumpert

^Naw I think Okoro's floor is much higher than Shumpert.
Shump was always injured and tbh I don't think he loved basketball enough..Iman was always too involved in rap, fashion or whatever.
The Cavs can at least get a better idea of these things in the interviews.

The more I think about it the better I feel about Advija or Okoro. These guys are not going to come in and solve all the defensive issues but it would be nice to have one starter than is above average at defending his position. I think both have the handles to potentially be a secondary handler. They obviously both need to work on their shot but so do the other top guys like Ball. Actually I would be more concerned about spending a top pick on Lamelo. He seems very boom or bust to me. The interviews with him would seem very important. His brother can't stay healthy and it looks to me like Lamelo might be even skinnier than Zo.

Shumpert was a ridicuuuulous defender before he got injured. Okoro is not that special defensively. Perhaps more versatile because he is bigger and is a smart defender, but Shumpert lateral quickness was out of this world and his hands are much better.

It makes no sense to draft Okoro if ownership is pressing Altman to improve the team if Okoro has such a huge deficiency in his game with his shot. We'd probably be looking at a safer pick like Toppin or Wiseman.
i dunno. If Garland improves, you'd have some pretty damn good 3pt shooting with Sexton, Garland, Windler, and Love. Seems like a team that could sacrifice more outside shooting for some defense.

Team defensive concepts are important, but you still need at least some guys who are actually good individual defenders if you want a good team defense.

I think Okoro's hands are very good. He plucks the ball away from people all the time

PG: Collin Sexton / Darius Garland / Dante Exum
SG: Kevin Porter Jr. / Gary Harris / Will Barton
SF: Andrew Wiggins / Cedi Osman / Dylan Windler
PF: Precious Achiuwa / Larry Nance Jr. / Alfonso McKinnie
C: James Wiseman / Jordan Bell
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

Trade Love for Wiggins. Trade Drummond for Gary Harris & Will Barton.

Championships.

Shumpert's ridiculous injury history goes back to his rookie year with the Knicks when he tore his ACL.
Okoro is the best man to man defender in this draft. Now if you want to say Vassell showed to be a better team defender I can agree with that.

Just based from posted videos, it seems Exums enjoys this team... Still hoping he can finally be healthy and follow the Livingston trajectory of being a productive bench guy after various injuries... He is a decent playmaker and have defensive potential because of his lenght, he'll need to figure out to play differently though because injuries zapped his athlethic ability that made him a lottery pick...

Is he a good playmaker?

I don't understand. If this guy, Chris Fedor, said on his podcast that the order of preference is Ball, Avdija then Okoro, then why is everyone assuming the pick will be Okoro? The other issue is the consensus mock drafts are starting to coalesce around Avdija.

Is Okoro just wishful thinking? If Ball is gone, doesn't it mean the Cavs next choice is Avdija? Am I missing something? Please explain.

Not saying starter level, but he can do spot pg duties and for situational matchup purposes... He's not much of an offensive treat but he is a decent passer and tries too setup plays....

Well yeah, I was talking about before he got injured during his team in NY. Unoftunately he wasn't the same after that, and his work ethic was just not good as he had other interests.

I personally doubt either Ball or Avdija will be available at 5.

Somebody sell me on Okoro. I haven't seen him play, so ignore this if that's an issue, but from his numbers I see a guy who measures on the small side for a 3 and doesn't shoot well. His free throw shooting is subpar which suggests he'll have a heavy lift improving his overall shooting to even league average for a wing. Why is he in the picture top 5?
He’s 6’6 but he has a thick build, really strong kid. He’s a very versatile player who makes an impact on both ends of the floor, right now his defense is ahead of his offense. High IQ player, doesn’t do anything to hurt his team, offensive game needs to develop but he shows signs that make me believe he’s got a lot of potential to grow into a great player. He‘s a pretty decent ball handler, looks like he can get better, has good vision and a good feel for the game. Can get to the rim and finish at a high level or dump it off to a teammate for a better shot. The only weakness is the shooting but his form isn’t broken, seems like he just needs time to work on it.

Player comps I’ve seen are Iggy, Jimmy Butler, Justise Winslow... Somebody here compared him to Marcus Smart and I thought that was a very good comp. I could see Okoro filling a similar role and being a heart and soul kind of guy for a team. I think he has the potential to be a more productive player than Smart, but he is a versatile do everything guy like that, without the weird anger issues lol

and a sick hop step.
