2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How high of a level are we talking?

Good question. I just looked quickly at his numbers and he looks fine as a solid possession, chain moving, receiver to me. Which is fine. Reliable, catches the ball well, can find open spots, and scores a few TDs. I just didn't know whether he still had that. Not looking for all pro.

One guy who is maybe more attainable for a late pick and I think somewhat underrated is Chris Conley.

He's in the last year if his deal, so I'd imagine he would be a late round pick type.

And he's at least a vertical threat to help stretch defenses.

Thielen was the name at WR that caught my eye. I have no idea though - can he still play at a high level?

Thielen is awesome.

He's getting paid 16 per year, though and that'll be for the next 4 years. I'm not sure that's worth it for us to give up a high draft pick.

The more I see of Baker, the more I believe that certain types of throws seem kind of difficult for him. Maybe it's because of his height or not having great touch, but he needs receivers that can use their body size as leverage and make those contested, leaping catches. I just don't think he's accurate enough to throw 20+ yards down the field between zones right into the receivers hands. He's gonna put the ball up (to avoid defenders) and want his receiver to go up and get it. Maybe if Baker was 6'5 he'd have a better vantage/angle and feel more confident making those passes right between the numbers, but that's not the case.

I'd like to see more size at the position. Let's give DPJ some burn along with Higgins and add in a promising but inexpensive piece. Look at what Travis Fulgham is doing for the Eagles - I'd rather not dump a ton more money into that position.

It's all about how gettable some of these guys are. There's some good players but it's going to come down to what it's going to cost. In theory Adam Theilen would be a great get but he's probably not going to be easier to get than a Brandon Cooks. Same for Julio Jones. Of course he would be a great add but you are more likely to get a lower tier guy for a late round pick than Julio Jones.

Berry and Stefanski aren't going to give up appreciable assets for a WR, but they do need a speed guy now. Hollywood needs to play, and Landry a possession receiver too, but they need a downfield threat, preferably one that can also return kicks.

Honestly though, they need help on defense before any of that. Sendejo and Redwine are just awful, the defensive line other than Garrett is garbage, and the linebackers are nothing special. An upgrade at any of 8 or 9 spots on defense should take priority over another receiver.

An analytic heavy team is not investing in guys like Julio and Theilen IMO.

We have the 5th highest WR capital spending in the league already.

There is just no data that would support a long term investment of ($64 mil - Theilen) or ($66 mil - Jones). That would be ludicrous.

You have to honestly look at only value guys who can produce at a satisfactory level, if I'm guessing.

The one really intriguing guy is Michael Gallup.

I still believe he is a good young player but he's been frozen out by the surprise availability of Lamb......and I would imagine he's the odd man out contract wise.

He seems like the type of player the Browns would consider more meaningful value for......who could be unlocked in a bigger role and possibly replace one of our higher priced receivers.

Brandin Cooks

Brandin Cooks

What does he do for us? We are just resigned to starting Higgins / DPJ outside for the rest of the year?

Cooks seems redundant to me with Landry (rightfully so) gobbling up nearly all the snaps inside.

Cooks is a deep threat and he'll usually be covered by the #1 CB on the other team. He's a burner too.

I mean sure we can start Higgins and DPJ the rest of the year but we're going to be a very easy team to cover. Higgins is good but he's not a threat.
