The Wine & Gold scrimmage is October 2.
If Wine had the first pick, I think it would go:
Wine - Gold
Sexton. Garland
Rubio. Mobley
Allen. Okoro
Markkanen. Wade
Windler. Cedi

I think Wine could outscore Gold by plenty.

Idk.. if I am gold in that scenario, I might take Laurie over okoro.. if wine takes okoro, I could choose windler or stick with Wade and go big big..

Where is Love in this scenario?

On the Denzel Valentine contract partial guarantee.,.isn’t that likely done so his salary can be used in a trade? Believe non-guaranteed contracts not longer hold dollar for dollar value; so with our current roster, our back half of the bench is filled with a large group of fringe players with no dollar value in trades (Wade, Stevens, Fall, Thomas, Kagenbele, etc.), untradeable contract guys like Love and Osman, and then perhaps guys you can use for salary matching purposes like Pangos, Windler, Rubio, and now Valentine.

I see that signing as a low risk salary, perhaps setting up a future trade…he’s likely worthless on the court. If he’s not, and contributes, then “score” and we trade him, if he’s terrible as expected, he can be used as salary filler.

Partially guaranteed contracts still have some value in the NBA. The NBA expanded the salary matching in trades during the last CBA negotiation so salaries don’t have to be as close as they once did. That might’ve mitigated their value, along with the fact that most guys that have those type of deals are fringe NBA types, making $2M per year or less. Teams can use those contracts, or trade with a team with cap space, to provide relief from the luxury tax.

Been trying to find the cavs training camp roster. Hoopshype under salary sis the closest I could find.

need to subtract IH and J R Smith(stretch) and add Valentine two-way that's 19 roster spots - 20 spots if J R stretch counts as a spot 136.6M seems close if you subtract IH and add Valentine salary as well keeping J R 1.4M stretch

They haven't released it yet. By and large the roster is set, with the two 2-way contracts not counting towards the 15 man roster:

PG- Garland/Rubio/Pangos
SG- Sexton/Windler/Valentine/B.Thomas (2-way)
SF- Okoro/Osman/Stevens
PF- Markkanen/Mobley/Wade
C- Allen/Love/Kabengele/Fall (2-way)

Note: The players with non-guaranteed contracts are in italics.

I'd love to see Windler get the backup 2 minutes. I also thought he and Cedi played pretty well together when Windler was healthy

Windler has a great opportunity for regular PT and he’s one of our best shooters (allegedly). If he can’t beat out Denzel Valentine then he’s just not a very good player.
