2021 Browns Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How was Marvin Wilson? Was a great UDFA signing, was hoping we’d keep him in some capacity.
I think we're gonna try and get him on the practice squad.

Dude looked like an incredible athlete, but didn't flash much in the trenches. Both he and Togiai were disappointing to my untrained eye. The only time Wilson popped was chasing down that Falcons RB after he bounced outside.

Seeing as how we had competition signing him (highest ever guaranteed money for an UDFA if I recall correctly), could we possibly net a conditional 6th or 7th for him? Still tons of potential, especially for a team that can afford to give him the reps to expedite his development.

Well, every team had multiple shots to spend a draft pick on him and didn't. I don't know that not making the Browns makes anyone more likely to spend a draft pick on him.

Quite possible that you're right. But for the same reason a team give up a future 6th for a current 7th on draft day, maybe we could get lucky. Just feels like a long shot that we'd be able to sneak him onto the PS.

That's sort of the system working correctly--right? If we have too many talented, better players ahead of him, and he has the chance to play elsewhere, he will.

Also, if you're a GM, why would you give up a pick for the guy you know that the Browns are going to make available to you for free?

Browns fans need to get used to this--we're going to see actual NFL players leave our team to play elsewhere. It'll start with cuts this year, but soon it will be free agents we can't afford to keep around. It means we have a good team. It's a good thing. Get used to it now.

Only reason to give up a late pick is jump other teams on the waiver wire and make sure he comes to your team. But i doubt Wilson is that guy, maybe one of our WR we dont sign might get us a 6th or 7th pick, but not a UFA rookie who cant make our squad.

Yup, completely agree.

I don't think it's uncommon at all for a team to be able to net a minor return for a player even if everyone knows will not be making the team. The Giants just got a conditional pick for their backup kicker. If a GM likes a player enough, he could send some minor draft compensation to seal the deal rather than risk another team swooping in and signing the player.

Don't we all know it. Forgive me if any of my thoughts are asinine -- I'm very much trying to wrap my head around this whole having a good roster thing :chuckle:

Yep, first round pick defensive tackles tend to be able to convert to the NFL easily. There is a steep, steep decline in success rate year-on-year after that.

With the depth the Browns currently have at DT as opposed to DE, I have to wonder if they'll utilize Malik Jackson some at DE to get guys like McDowell or Elliott more snaps at DT over Gustin/Jackson snaps at DE...

Malik Jackson played defensive end in a 3-4 while in Denver. He was a little younger and more spry back then, but when he was played end last night I figured the coaches wanted to see if he can still handle it.

What are the chances of 2 Malik's making an NFL team at the same position?
