2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@CATS44
Careful .... I was referring to 1 area of the roster & options.

While Chang/ Zimmer/ Mercado/ Bobby Bradley/ possibly Harold Ramirez are out of options for next season, Daniel Johnson, Ernie Clement, Owen Miller all have options remaining.

The fact that there are multiple LHP options to be added to the roster plays into the way I was looking at things.

Just like the fact that the CLE FO has not given Kyle Nelson (or Cam Hill & Scott Moss) opportunities since 8/1/21.... I think those 3 roster spots are in jeopardy.

I don't think we should be thinking of our LHRP as 1 LOOGY on our roster. They are much more than that. If we keep Hentges, he is a possible multi-inning guy that they think they can bring in for 2-3 innings (not just for a few hitters). If they keep Gose, they believe that his control is under control and 100 mph plays up whether he is facing lefties or righties. I don't know what they are going to do with Perez due to his limited use. They must have thought highly of him to take him from a starter to a reliever on a faster track (AA/AAA/MLB). They could have kept him at AAA and not rostered him as they only gave him 1 game or something the first time up and limited even now. His career righty/lefty split is not all that different and this year he has done better versus righties (at least in minors). Nelson is probably gone with who they are calling up. Moss with his injuries and other people having a higher ceiling is probably gone along with Young and possibly Allen Sr (via low level trade).

With 24 pitchers on roster plus Morris, Cantillo and possibly Pilkington = 27 ... they will want to cut to get down to 19 or 20 for 40 man with
combo of Parker, Shaw (FAs), Moss, Young, Nelson, Hill, Allen Sr., Wittgren

I won't be upset with a relief staff of
Clase, Sandlin, Kar, Hentges, Gose, Stephan, Mejia and one of Perez/Garza -- it is a hard throwing pen .... plus we have a few other relievers in AAA and AA that could be called up as injuries happen. Morris at 98 is an obvious short-term transition to get him experience early while stretching him out in AAA (with Morgan already pegged as 6th man). And, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back Parker or Shaw on minor league contracts with a wink that they will be added once 60-day DL is opened (assuming someone throws their arm out in ST) for some guaranteed extra $ (and early opt out date if not rostered).

I think Cam Hill is a definite DFA at this point. Nelson is close behind, what happened to his outstanding control??

Columbus is putting the hurt on Louisville tonight up 13-2 to start the 7th

Daniel Johnson having a good night and Oscar Gonzalez is having a HELLUVA game. 3-5 with 2 2-run homers. He just did strikeout with the bases loaded though.

Palacios with a couple runs, Arias with 3runs 2RBI a homer and a walk..

Columbus down 5-2 in the top of the 7th.

Solo homers for Arias (playing extremely well lately - OPS over .800 on the year) and Steven Kwan - his 5th in 24 AAA games.. Are we really willing to expose this guy?

Cam Hill with another rough outing. He was a fringe 40 guy to begin with and after this year he needs to be DFA'd for better options.

With Hill, it's hard to come back from that type of injury he sustained and pitch well right away. He likely is a DFA'd guy... I just hope we see him again in the pros with the team.

With the installation of Hentges in the pen, Sandlins debut, Mejia being moved to the pen, and now the intrigue of Gose throwing strikes...it's difficult to see any path for Hill in this org...unless he passes thru waivers and can be reassigned.

I dont think anybody envisioned Hill as a backend piece, just a middle reliever. But those four, along with Clase and Karinchak, all look like they could be more than middle relievers.

Gose, Hentges, Mejia, Sandlin, and Perez have really improved their stock as bullpen arms for next year, passing up some of the higher ranked guys like Hill. I like all five of them for next year along with Clase, Karinchak, and Sandlin. Time for a youth movement in the pen.

But I'm wondering if we can use eight relievers if the starters are consisently going 6-7 innings? We might be able to do fine with seven and have an extra outfielder for better matchups.

We will likely have a rotating 26 man honestly...

Cant rotate guys if they are out of options...

Even if your referring to the 26 man roster rotating: there are players out of options all over the place & would be a cause of problems..

Eh... whomever is at the end of the bench will have options honestly since it's like a Perez, Garza etc.
