The other Logan Allen followed Gaddis with another similar start. Sits 90-91, touched 93. Throws a really good circle-change that you don't normally see from lefties and he throws it a lot. Lot of drop and fade away from righties. Mixed in a pretty good curve that he is throwing harder than he did in college. Good command, repeats his mechanics, moves pitches wherever he wants to. He will be yet another fast moving college arm in this system.
Lavastida called another good game. A highlight of his athleticism as a C, he stole his 4th base of the season already last night after beating out a single hit up the middle to the 2B. He's just a solid all-around C. Does nothing spectacular, just does everything well.
Valera was pulled as a precaution in the 4th. Aggravated something on a groundout in his 2nd AB.
Jose Tena is a solid SS prospect in system loaded solid SS prospects. Didn't have much action defensively (LC pitchers K'd 15 of the 27 outs), but he swung the bat incredibly well. Smooth swing, simple approach. If the power he showed last night sticks he bumps up a tier for me. His only downfall is he is a righty fielder, lefty hitter which this organization has had troubles developing lately.
Tough game for Naranjo, but those are going to happen as mentioned yesterday. Put up good ABs, but K'd in the end.
Ray Delgado had a nice game at the plate and at 3B. If he starts reverting back to his normal self he is yet another good MI prospect for this system to have. Switch hitter with sound mechanics from both sides of the plate, good frame to add strength/power as he matures, and can play any IF spot.
Other than that, not a lot of the "prospects that matter" got PT. The older college guys like Schneemaan, Brennan, and Wade all got the starts last night and their older relievers finished the game off after Allen.
There's a lot of young talent here in the position player pool. Things you usually never see from young groups like that in the minors is clean defense. 2 straight games I've watched them and they play exceptionally clean defense for this level. Mix that with the pitching staff and they'll win a lot of games, even with the inconsistency they're going to see from the bats.
