2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The shot was much closer to straight on than it was from the wing.

Regardless, there are lucky shots that go in all through the game, and UCLA had plenty go their way.

You only have to rewind the clock, what, 3 seconds? It's not like Juzang planned that miss so that he would get the offensive rebound. Could've easily just been a run-off-the-mill defensive rebound, game over. Instead Juzang ties it and we get a classic buzzer-beater on the other end. I'm not complaining.

Prime Derrick Rose is like the most explosive PG ever. High praise...

He’s just not Rose though. Rose was so quick and explosive, that guys couldn’t even sag off of him and stop him. It was always funny to watch. Wasn’t it Andre Miller he broke off on a crossover, just dropped him, even though Miller was playing 7 feet off him when he changed directions? :chuckle:

Suggs is a really good athlete, but there is Derrick Rose and everyone else, from a pure athletic standpoint. The only guy I’ve seen in person that rivaled Rose was Russ.....but Rose’s quickness and functional athleticism, especially in traffic was just mind blowing.

Better jumper than Rose, but not as explosive (still an excellent athlete though). More defensive-minded.

I think he could be the best version of Jrue Holiday.

Is he a better shooter than Rose?

Suggs was generally bad shooting from 3 throughout the back half of the year. He finished the year at 33%, but just 25% in conference play. He rode a handful of hot shooting games early but otherwise was just given 3’s if he would take them.

I think they are pretty comparable as shooters at this stage. What makes you say he has a better jumper than Rose?

Suggs did about 10 things in that game which made me think he’s the face of a franchise more than that shot.

Seems like such a natural scorer, with athletic ability in a pretty high percentile for the role he can play.

The passing ability seems pretty good, the bounce pass cross court was pretty next level coming off a pretty great block at the other end.

Such an impressive performance.

What would people say is his FLOOR as a comp?

Sexton, Garland, Suggs, Okoro. That logjam will get sorted out in short order.

Feels inevitable that he’s going to look even better on an NBA court as well.

Current Fultz with a slightly better jumper? He can help out teams by doing all of the non scoring things, but if he shoots like he has since conference play and doesn't improve it'll be hard to be more than a slight positive offensively.

Floor? Derek Rose post knee injury with better defense

Ceiling, Derek Rose with better defense pre knee injury

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be selecting either 5th, or 8th. We should all accept it now and get used to the idea of Suggs in San Francisco, Oklahoma City, or Houston.

It is interesting that people call him a better shooter here. He’s kind of a weird case where his form looks good but he hasn’t really gotten a result at any level.

He’s hovered as a 30-32% shooter through all levels the past 24 months here, wether it be high school, various AAU / international competitions and now college.

If he improves as a shooter, I do think he has a good offensive profile but I would be concerned that he’s seen such a plateau here during these developmental years and can’t really seem to translate shooting improvement on the court, that it maybe isn’t as likely to happen as people think.

I like these exercises.....because it is just a blind look at similar production. So I can search and find a profile that is similar in both production and age and see how perceptions of one prospect may just differ so much for (possibly) more subjective reasons.

Who do people think this is? Lottery PG in the past 5 years. I've hidden data that makes it easier to google. :chuckle:

Yes, he’s a much better shooter than Rose. You’re leaning too heavily on the shooting numbers, which are admittedly mediocre, and not involving the eye test at all.

I see a great shooter in Suggs, and I’m betting most scouting reports would say the same.
