2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Barnes over Green is dope like dumb. Its not happening either. Barnes is a glue guy. Not a lead dog. This is a star league based around scoring/athletic "ceilng", which impacts future defensive potential and in many respects, that has always been the case. Its why Kuminga fascinates the Cavs despite being rawer than sheet. If they really did have something that made them not want to take Green or Mobley, its why they ran Kuminga through the ringer and haven't sniffed Barnes.

Barnes over Green seem to be pretty obvious to me. Take the guy with multiple elite skills, high IQ, a great work ethic and body at a position of need over the guy with one elite skill who projects to be a one dimensional player. I have real concerns that Green ever develops a passing or defensive game. If he is just Malik Monk with better hops that is a waste of a pick. If he is 2014 JR Smith, that is a good player but not a top 3 pick. I see 2014 JR Smith as his most likely outcome. Barnes average outcome is higher than that, and with a decent % 3pt shot he will be pushing all-NBA player. Developing shooting and defensive positioning are the two easiest things, Barnes already has one and all the hard stuff.

The Kuminga stuff is silly. He is not in play higher than the 5th pick and realistically shouldnt be in play until 9 or 10. Wagner, Sengun, Moody, and arguably Mitchell/Bouknight are better prospects. He is so damn raw. There is a chance he turns into a versatile scoring weapon. He is just as likely to be another Jeff Green. Valuable role player for 10+ years? sure. Worth the 5th pick used on him. Absolutely not.

S

So? Who cares?

If your offering I’ll take the dollars and donuts but ya it’s common knowledge a former all star will sign with a contender when bought out on a prove it deal…why do we care?

Id rather buy him out and give Mobley all his minutes anyway, we can eat a year of loves contract while we are contending for a play in next year…
All I’m responding to are the people keep saying “nobody is lining up for services”!
Are they lining up for his services in trade (due to his large contract)? NO! But I’m saying let him get bought out and there will be no shortage of teams attempting to sign him.

Barnes had the third highest standing vertical at the combine paired with a 9' standing reach that puts his reach the top of the damn backboard from a standing vert position. yeah he is not an athlete at all smh
to make your argument even less valid Barnes had the 3rd fastest shuttle run and was in the top 10 on lane agility and max vert. you can't make this shit up.
But he cannot space the floor this team needs spacers and Green is clearly capable of that more than either Barnes or Kuminga so the only real question is do they expect to get more spacing from the current roster like an improved Garland and Okoro or do they need to draft that guy.
I think Barnes and Kuminga are only in play at 5 in a trade down situation really, but they both are a better fit defensively on this team and with Barnes playing point guard in college, he brings something special as a result

I never put much stock in combine stuff, but it's hard to overstate how impressive Barnes was. Easily one of the most impressive combine showings of all time by a wing.
Yet we have futuredome always saying kuminga over barnes because kuminga is "explosive"

Someone should ask Colin Castleton if Barnes is "explosive." One of the best shot blockers in the country and Barnes dunked him into oblivion :chuckle:

Give me a break. Combine stuff sounds like fixed exercises like the NFL combine warriors. I look at film. There are a couple of pre draft videos that show this. Find them bud. They are in this thread.

I...don't get what you mean? The NBA combine uses exact measurements to figure out how athletic these players truly are, and Barnes is like a 99th percentile athlete.

Either way, it doesn't really matter.

You know most the combine is televised right? You used to even be able to go see it in Chicago. I'm pretty sure a few posters here had gone there in the early 2010s

I've never understood this notion that Barnes is an "underwhelming" or average athlete. I remember this play from his first college game:

Yea, he's a pretty terrific athlete actually, with a 6'9 & built frame to boot.

I think in the space of one mock draft I read that Cade's a "good but not great" athlete, Barnes is a "average" athlete, and Sengun is a "poor" athlete. Just melts my brain.
