I'm thinking Karinchak is best used in low-leverage situations.

Not to step on any toes.
He's not a guy I'm ever going to feel that confident in if he's coming in with inherited base runners. If for no reason other than it seems more likely than not that he's going to walk at least one batter.

6.65 BB/9 over his last 43 innings. Career 5.12 BB/9 over nearly 90 innings

I feel like his fastball and curveball have entirely different trajectories. There is no fooling a batter. They know exactly which one of the two pitches is coming.

Back when he had sticky, it was okay, because his curve was near-unhittable. Since the sticky crackdown, that no longer works.

On the bright side, when you look at our pitching history, and specifically guys like Bieber, we're one of the best places in baseball for Karinchak to try and learn to tunnel his pitches better. On the other side, Karinchak isn't the person I'd bet on.

And no more sticky stuff.

Remember when Hosey re-aggravated his thumb and he took like 3 days off, well, since Jun 21st, his return:

.215 avg, .268 obp, .591 ops, 0 HR, 1 RBI, and a ton of popouts to go with a ton LOB. Guards are 5-12 in this span and he dropped from a season high of .307 avg to .285.

It's really showing we need more help for him pretty badly. If he slumps, we slump...

I was just thinking about this too. He needs to sit. Its not like he's doing much with the bat anyway.

Guys a bum bub.

So we're in a slump. Pretty much most of the roster, except for maybe Franmill showing some signs of coming back to life.

The good thing is that slumps are mysterious. Nobody has ever really figured out how they work, why they happen, why they disappear. But, as long as you have some baseline level of talent, they do tend to disappear as quick as they begin, usually for no quantifiable reason.

We get a one day break today, probably need more than a day but who knows? Maybe some guys need to get drunk, others might need to geek out on video games for a day. I suggested the Bull Durham approach of turning on the sprinklers, have a good team drunk, and then run the bases in the mud. That's just the movies but in real life who knows what it takes. Or is it something you just wait out and hope for the best? If anyone should have some idea, it's Tito. I'm sure he's seen dozens of these things come and go.
