A bottom 10 list would be entertaining.

Oh I’m sure.

But complaining about a guy who is posting his first .800+ OPS season in the minors since rookie ball at the age of 27 1200 PAs into the upper levels and acting like he is a make or break to the MLB team and a must keep player because he hits RH is #1 for me.

Alex Call and his career .754 minor league OPS was totally going to be better than Benson (career .793 OPS), Miller (career .818 OPS), and Jones (career .847 OPS).

Alex Call, at the same age as those guys are now, was busy slashing .205/.266/.321 in AA.

You can literally find a RH platoon bat for free at any given point of a season, it’s not that big of a deal. Let the kids spin, time to figure out what they have with their actual prospects, not their minor league depth like Call.

Shitting on Jose, Kluber and Santana have to be up there.

All the pandemonium over Lindor being traded.. .fans wringed their hands for what, 3 years before he got moved? And even if you ignore the money (which you shouldn't), it looks like we might end up ahead in the deal.

Josh Tomlin is better than Trevor Bauer is up there for me.

I just wanted Call up because he was a solid defender that bats from the right side and had solid OBP% with options... Mercado didn't have options, while Call did. It's nice to have a right handed bat with a million left handed OF bats, but sincerely he is a 4th OF, that's on paper, easy to replace.

If the FO decided not to keep him, then they decided he wasn't apart of the future of the roster...

It’s nice if none of those LH bats can handle LH pitching.

Kwan can. Has proven so at every level as a player too. A debut season hitting .289/.330 against same handed pitching for a LHH should erase any idea of platooning him moving forward.

Valera has a higher OPS vs LHP this season in AA than he does vs RHP. He’s not going to be brought up and debut as a platoon player.

Palacios has hit LHP at every level.

Brennan, who should be added to the 40 this winter, has hit LHP at every level.

Sure, they’re LH heavy, but they have multiple lefties who can handle LHP. If they can hit LHP who cares which side they swing the bat from?

Hence why Call was just a placeholder... I think they would have kept him if they could have gotten a deal in place that freed some 40 man spots, but since they didn't and need more arms on the 40 man, Call got the cut...

That being stated, I feel bad for him since he really had a good game and got cut after. A team that needs an OF though could easily take the chance on him. Tigers just moved Grossman and I think Call could be a non power version of someone like him...

The Athletic is not impressed with the White Sox's lack of activity at the deadline.

White Sox underperform at deadline, too

The White Sox did not sugarcoat it, claim their team doesn’t have any holes, or compare Luis Robert coming off the IL to a trade-deadline addition. They failed. They wanted to augment an offense lacking power and consistency against right-handed pitching. They wanted to arm their banged-up bullpen with more than just Jake Diekman. They even looked into some starting pitching depth, even though they anticipated a lack of supply making it cost prohibitive.

The same core that has underperformed its way into third place in the weakest division in baseball will be called upon to pull itself up by the bootstraps; which as we all know, very rarely works in reality. Colson Montgomery, Oscar Colás and Bryan Ramos could easily have careers that would make dealing them for two months of a platoon bat look foolish. But for now, it was a continuation of a theme that everything is going wrong for the White Sox, and they have neither the means nor the will to do anything about it. Diekman looked lights-out in his White Sox debut, though! – James Fegan

The Sox have the easiest schedule the rest of way among the Central contenders, although that may have changed now that the G's have played seven games against the Rays and Astros since the break. But their lack of doing anything to improve the team at the trading deadline improves the Guardians' chances of winning "the weakest division in baseball".

The Sox are 8-7 since the break, playing KC, Oakland, Texas, and Colorado (except for going 2-2 against the G's). They have been treading water against mostly bad teams. They scored 4 runs in their last three games - all against the Rangers.

The door is open.

The interesting thing is the Guardians are so much younger than they were last year. No Cesar Hernandez, Eddie Rosario, Franmil Reyes, Bradley Zimmer, Harold Ramirez, Nick Wittgren, Blake Parker, and Phil Maton. They've all been replaced by younger players. So far 13 prospects have made their debuts with 55 games to go.

The Guardians were not supposed to contend this year but the Twins' rash of injuries and the White Sox' surprising underperformance has cracked open the door. So we get to watch the next generation of Guardians make their entrances while we're in a pennant race at the same time. We get to have our cake and eat it, too.

A lot more to the story on this move that will never see the light of day.
I noticed something a few games ago that has really stuck with me.

After a win, the players on the field went through the procession line of congratulatory daps from the coaching staff and bench. The camera stayed fixed on Tito as he offered verbal praise to each player in line, until he got to Franmil. Tito looked at him blankly and said nothing.

There's clearly something more than just reduced production happening with Franmil.

Also, why didn't the team just DFA him immediately after the deadline? Why send him down to AAA for three games and then cut him?

Just imagine what people would have said if that happened. Why didn't they try to send him down to AAA to work with Tracy??? I am sure they were trying to change something and how he reacted down there was just more of the same and they had enough of it. He had 1 last chance with us and blew it (probably wanting a fresh start).

He only got three games to work with Tracy, so I'm not sure if he was afforded a real opportunity there to work on his swing mechanics.

The whole ordeal has been bizarre.

Palacios hit .196 with a .604 OPS vs. LHP last year at Akron. .950 OPS vs. RHP

This year its .250 with a .716 OPS vs. LHP at Columbus. .920 OPS vs. RHP.

Brennan last year was .261/.690 vs. LHP and .297/.850 vs. RHP at LC (I dont have Akron).

This year .304/.718 vs LHP and .313/.921 vs. RHP at Akron (I dont have Columbus)

Okay?

Career, hence why I said “at every level”. You’re giving me quarter year sample sizes.

For his career in the minors Palacios is hitting .262/.339 against LHP. For a guy who doesn’t hit for power, more than acceptable.

Same with Brennan. Career .293/.362 against LHP for a guy who hasn’t hit for power until this season. More than acceptable.

Those numbers are even better for Brennan between Akron and Columbus too. Pushing .310/.385 vs LHP.
