With Tampa here next week and the Sox with the kitties, we need to get at least one of these ranger games

Sorry my mistake. Rays games with Guardians are indeed in Cleveland.
Kinda weird huh, we end the season with 9 games at home. That's clutch. For a second there I was thinking we travel then play the Royals for 6 at home. Hopefully fans turn up and get in gear for an October to remember.

cody rights the ship - 2-1 rangers thru 5 - we got a hit!

tiger lead the white sox 3-1 in the 6th

everyone must be watching a re-broadcast of the browns game

At the start of the season everybody, including me, said, this roster stinks. No way they make the playoffs.
Now I'm hearing, OK, they'll make the postseason, but they will get smoked in the playoffs.

Not so fast,,,,
Let's compare the 2022 G's with the 2016 AL Champs.
Not their whole career. But compare the player in the fall of 2016 to the players in the fall of 2022.

LF Brandon Guyer < Steven Kwan
CF Rajai Davis = Myles Straw (being generous to Rajai)
RF Lonnie Chisenhall < Oscar Gonzales
3B Jose Ramirez = Jose Ramirez's
SS Frankie Lindor > Amed Rosario
2B Jason Kipnis < Andres Gimenez
1B Mike Napoli < Josh Naylor
C Gomes/Perez = Hedges/ Maile
DH Carlos Santana > Owen Miller/Brennan

Pitching I see as a wash. Both had strong bullpens.

Do you think I'm being fair? I think the 22 G's would smoke the 16 Tribe.

Whoa, hold on, my friend. That 2016 team came this close to winning the WS (thanks for triggering me, btw). I do think you're overvaluing the 2022 team a little bit.

As @Derek pointed out, the 2016 lineup was much better offensively. The big difference was power. Just looking at some basic stats:

2016 team
OBP .330
SLG .430
OPS .760

2022 team
OBP .315
SLG .382
OPS .697

The 2016 team struck out more (1246 v. 1023) but walked more (531 v. 419). They hit 185 HRs. 2022 team is at 118 HRs.

Napoli was definitely better than Naylor, though he sucked in the playoffs.

I'd say Kipnis = Giminez (Kip had more power), and Chisenhall = Gonzalez but it's arguable.

Hedges/Maile surprisingly are better offensively than Gomes/Perez were in 2016 as @CBBI noted.

You left out Tyler Naquin, who had way more PAs than Guyer and had a .886 OPS. CoCo Crisp was decent (and had a great Series). When you factor in that they platooned with Davis, I'd say they inarguably account for a better offensive player than Straw. (I mean, Davis had a OPS of .693. Straw...does not.) It's probably better, though, to say that 2016 bench was better.

Pitching
2016 1.239 WHIP (SP's WHIP 1.2)
2022 1.173 WHIP (SP's WHIP 1.06)

Bieber and Sticks skew the 2022 numbers. I'm too tired to check the bullpen numbers. Miller was obviously a beast. But Allen v. Clase is not a contest. So in that sense, a wash, kind of?

That's all regular season, btw.

Not to rain on your parade or anything. And the silver lining might be that the 2022 team is made to manufacture runs more consistently, which should help in the playoffs. Oh, and this team is 3 years younger than the 2016 team. Lots of good times ahead. Not trying to dampen your enthusiasm for the playoffs this year, either. Nobody wants to face us.

I keep hearing people say this about our team.

Why do you feel that low-power, high OBP means more consistent scoring of runs?

Or am I misinterpreting this and you mean that if you get, for example, a leadoff double in a close playoff game, you can get him over and get him in?

Because, to me, power scores more consistently while our lineup scores in bunches. The difference between us scoring 0 runs and 1 run is large--it takes multiple hits in an inning to get there. But once you do, each additional hit plates about one additional run.

If you had the ‘16 vs ‘22 Indians play each other in a 7 game series you’d have one pretty serious problem.

We’re not 100% sure what happens with time travel, especially if one person is coaching both teams, which Tito is/was.

It’s entirely possible that he would spaghettify or implode, leaving us without a manager.

Is that worth it for the novelty of this imaginary series? Personally, my vote is no. I suggest we stop entertaining it for another minute. The man has been through enough.

FWIW - Austin Hedges has gone ice cold at the dish the last couple of weeks, hitless since Sept. 12th. Not unexpected or even that alarming, but between him and Maile, they really were delivering out of the 8th hole after the trade deadline. A solid and unexpected improvement.

Just keep doing what we're doing, but if either one of them (and Maile is showing more life at the plate for now IMO) gets "hot", they move into the primary side of a job share. Also I think our starting pitchers can call a shot here if they want.

Actually there are still 2 players left from the 16 team. The 22 JRam is better now, the 22 Shaw is worse.

I see.

Did you see the other day in the game thread when I asked what could be done with Shaw to punish him for how bad he’s been?

Francona is so good he’s almost taken for granted.

Truly one of the greatest managers in history imo.

Winning a WS before he calls it quits would be just a perfect end.
