My fear playing the Rays is Tito getting his ass handed to him by Cash, who's so good at micromanaging vs Tito, who's really bad/stubborn at it.

If Tito goes into this series continuing to hit Rosario 2nd and Naylor 4th, both over our best hitter Gimenez, Cash will match up late and put his team in better position to win close games. Rosario just shouldn't bat 2nd vs RHP to begin with, the track record/sample is clear enough. Especially now with another good LHB like Brennan in the lineup, Gimenez should bat 2nd.
Tito simply ignores it for some "team spirit" dynamic, that might or might not (I'd say it was simply talent) have played a role that got us here, but now the postseason is about short term win now moves. And batting Rosario 2nd, Naylor 4th just aren't. Cash will insert a slider heavy RHR vs Amed and the same LHR version vs Naylor....and we're all praying to somehow get to see Gimenez/O. Gonzalez bat one more time late in the game.

Naylor really shouldn't be starting against left handed pitchers period, much less hitting 4th against a lefty.

But I suspect he'll be in there 4th or 5th later this week against McClanahan.

The time to make changes like this was months ago. There's no point in discombobulating everyone as the playoffs hit even if I agree with some of the suggestions.

I think you’re going to be in the minority on that opinion. I think most teams would prefer to play the Jays/Astros.
I will say we are the hottest team in baseball which is very dangerous going in to the postseason! Our style doesn't rely on the long ball either which can also be extremely dangerous in the post-season! I hope we stay hot! Maybe Seattle will want us but not Tampa? They're 5-1 this year against us!

seattle has owned the Gs this year. I want nothign to do with them. Especially considering they are on the west coast and thats a shit ton of travel.

I prefer the jays over the Rays, but unless the Jays just shit the bed their final series it looks like its going to be the Rays

Historically, regular season performance against an opponent has little correlation with performance in postseason match ups.

I really don’t think Seattle is chomping at the bit to play the Guardians.

Also, the travel doesn’t matter since all three games will be in Cleveland.

The long ball is actually more reliable than contact hitting over a small sample size. Doesn’t mean we can’t dink and dunk our way through the playoffs, and piss a lot of people off along the way.

Still, we’re two games of bad BABIP luck from going home. There’s a very high volatility in performance when you rely on contact hitting. Hopefully we come out on the right side of it.

You are right all 3 games are in Cleveland, for some reason i was thinking game 1 was in Seattle. Either way I want nothing to do with the Ms you can say that regular season and post season have nothing to do with each other (And i wouldnt neccassarily disagree), but I can tell you that the Gs got absolutely smacked by Seattle this year, and I want nothign to do with them for that reason.

That’s fair, but we’re also a very different team right now (and so are they).

Assuming we play the Rays (they're 1.5 games back of Seattle) the matchups will be:

Friday: Bieber v. Kluber
Sat: McKenzie v. Glasnow
Sun: Quantrill v. Springs

My feeling is that we need to win in two because we're not beating Springs. Not only is he a lefty but he's one of the best and shut us out for six innings last week on just three hits.

We touched up Kluber for 8 hits and 3 runs in four innings last week, so we absolutely have to win Friday behind Bieber since that is our most favorable matchup. Assuming we win Friday it's going to come down to Tristan vs. Glasnow Saturday.

Glasnow started his first game of the season against us last week and went three innings, allowing one run. He looked very good. He's pitching again tonight.

Assuming Bieber gets us a win Friday I think it will come down to Saturday's game as to whether we'll advance.

I'm wondering whether the Rays will not pitch Rasmussen in the season finale on Weds if they are locked into the #6 seed by that point.

@BimboColesHair said it’ll be McClanahan, not Kluber.

I also think it’s a little silly to assume we won’t beat Springs when we just did.

It’s not going to be Kluber game 1.

It’s going to be McClanahan for the Rays whoever they play.

I believe Toronto is ruled out. They're up 4 games on Tampa Bay and each team only have 3 games left

I am glad it won't be for Toronto if for no reason other than their fans would've taken over Progressive Field

Friendly reminders when saying “team A worked team B” in the regular season, w/r to postseason matchups.

2016 Indians

vs Boston: 2-4 in the regular season (swept them in playoffs)

2017 Indians

vs Yankees: 5-2 in the regular season (lost series 3-2)

2018 Indians

vs Houston: 3-4 in the regular season (swept by them in the playoffs)

There are numerous more examples of this all over baseball history, but regular season success against a team ≠ postseason success against a team.

Purposefully losing games before going into the playoffs sounds like a good way to come out flat and lose in the playoffs. Especially the MLB playoffs when you want to be playing well heading into them.

There's no way Tampa isn't starting their ace.

McClanahan is pitching for sure--most likely in game 1.
