2022 Hot Stove

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As I understand it, and Im no immigration lawyer, it takes about 15 days to process a p-1 visa after a sponsor (team) petitions. MLB can usually goose it up to 10 days. After processing and the petition being approved, the team sends thevpaperwork to Homeland Security, who contacts the Consulate in the players country. Then the player is given an appointment for his visa.

A foreign player that has been traded has 30 days to repetition before his visa expires. Those 30 days will be up long before the new CBA begins. So, every traded foreign player and every signed foreign FA will require a new visa. Since the teams have shut down all player related actions, most of those petitions will begin either at the start of the new CBA for players already traded or at the signing of every FA.

Assuming that nothing gets fouled up either in the US or in the players country....assuming that embassies are fully staffed...that players don't forget all their receipts and other papers (a petition can run to seventy pages of documents) ...assuming that transportation can be reasonably acquired...a best case scenario is a month, but lately, due to lack of staffing, it sometimes takes up to six weeks.

There are a lot of little pebbles that can get in the gears along the way...like unpaid speeding tickets...missing an arraignment for a misdemeanor charge...losing a birth certificate....allowing your original visa to elapse by even a day.

Most teams have immigration specialists who grab P-1 visas for guys for 5 years or the length of a players contract or the “expected time with the team”, from the MLB guys down to the lowest level MILB guys.

Shit, like 15% of guys don’t even get temporary visas and try to go a more permanent route.

Each visa application is unique to the player it’s for, which leads to some funky stuff here and there. But 9/10 times a guy gets their visa to lineup with their contract length or team control, or in the very least 5 years so they don’t have to deal with this every off season.

This isn’t something a majority of foreign players have to deal with every off season. Like I said though, free agents might have some difficulties, but nothing egregious in comparison to normal years.

This is a non-issue for how few it will effect.

I’d like to see the Mets win the World Series. That’s all that’s left on Buck’s to-do list

Red Sox get Amed Rosario SS
Guardians get Jarren Duran OF

The values match up fairly closely.. Thoughts?

He looks a lot like Bradley Zimmer to me, though he had a heck of a minor league season in '19.

Duran would be interesting if he hit right handed, but as a LH bat looks a lot like Palacios and Kwan. IMO not enough upgrade over what we have to trade a 2-3 WAR SS.

If we acquired Duran we would have four LH corner OF prospects...three of which are more suited for left field.

BTW, Amed is only nine months older than Duran.

No thank you! Duran is a soft hitting left hander... We have that in house, plus we are getting rid of one of the few proven MLB hitters we have. Not even close to a smart move. Put Rosario in LF over him honestly...

Not that it matters, but here's my Top Ten Most Wanted List for the G's this off-season. (I didn't include people like Castellanos, who would be too pricey in $, or Reynolds, who would be too pricey in players.)

10. Archie Bradley - think he could still be valuable in our pen.
9. Wil Myers - OF who could platoon at 1B.
8. Kyle Schwarber - good player, but don't hold your breath.
7. Jo Adell - may be ready to blossom. On a desperate team.
6. Ian Happ - pals with the new hitting coach.
5. Jesse Winker - an elite hitter. (LH anyway).
4. Ketel Marte - lots of versatility.
3. Mitch Haniger - power hitting OF
2. Willson Contreras - short term, but changes entire position.
1. Matt Olson - we have the ammunition to make a deal. Changes absolutely everything. - Boom!

Hmm... you can add

Mitch Haniger
Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Jorge Soler
Nick Senzel
Harrison Bader
Alexander Canario
Garrett Cooper
Anthony Santander

To the OF'ers

If we have the ammunition to trade for two years of Olson and a rental of Contreras, we have the ammunition to acquire just about any long term acquisition that is reasonably available.

The part in bold is the sticking point.
Reasonable for you or me or even the CLE FO might not be a match for the other club involved in the trade. I am not suggesting that CLE should not explore trades (I have every confidence/ belief that the FO is making inquires & having discussions), but I will not scream that it is the end of the world if a trade is not completed.

Don't make a bad deal to just make a deal...

Be prudent and wise..

Wouldn't

Seeing as he is only 1 year younger than Amed but very uncertain, I think the Sox have to add something. Would be better off finding a different trade, as quality should matter more in return for Amed than quantity, seeing as the farm system is loaded and the 40-man is bursting at the seams.
