2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not saying I'm right, but I prefer Cantillo to Allen. Both are very good, young SP prospects, but I like Cantillo's ceiling which I see as higher.
Truth be told....

I don't prefer either guy.. and especially either guy as a starter.. That said..the physicality of Cantillo over Allen is easy to see... Cantillo, is a big strapping lad with bristling muscles and more projection than Allen.. without debate. Allen is a little guy..

Both of these guys.. in shorter stints could have their weapons play up:

-Allen: Fastball / Change up with precision control.. Think of Eli Morgan before he starting bringing his fastball velo in the mid 90's.. The Allen change up with the current FB is a pretty deadly weapon.. If he's able to add a few ticks.. even better..
-Cantillo has the same problem soooo many young pitchers have.. especially when their routine has been blown to hell and gone.. rustiness. In Cantillo's situation.. it's even worse.. He's barely pitched in the last three years.. Control and command with runners on will not be pretty with Cantillo right now.. He'll remain a starter (and should) until he's a bit more seasoned and/or traded..

Neither one of these guys say MOR or better starter.. and that's where I unofficially draw a line and or rank ANY prospect pitcher having a chance in the Guardians system.. If they're not going to be able to beat out McStix with stuff and command/control.. they're headed to the pen.. or for trade..

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that none of this seems like something that is disagreeable. But my question is how you rate the rest of our high-potential starters within the org? I like the benchmark that you set of "MOR or better starter." That's what I would look at, particularly because our rotation is currently satiated with what appear to be MOR starters (BieGOAT being the one current exception). So who among

EspinGOAT
Williams
Bibee
Hankins
Curry
Gaddis
Burns
Morris
And any of the other 2021 draft picks

Do you see as MOR or better? It seems that the first two of my list would fall into that category. But any others? I appreciate your thoughts.

Three, maybe four or five....

Cody Morris has a fine four pitch mix now that he's developed a cutter to go with his other three pitches..

Add Carlos Vargas to this list.. He's got quite a bit of RP risk.. but has the stuff to become a MOR or better..

The 2021 draft has brought a bunch of developmental guys like Mace, Nikhazy, etc.. etc.. ones you've heard about.. but there are two guys that have a special "something" about them.. Starting with Franco Aleman.. big kid.. has a completely unrefined delivery and stuff.. He's raw.. but could become what the Guardians project.. The other is Jack Leftwich.. Typical Florida Gator.. tall.. thin.. really brings the heat.. has a nice "same tunnel" change up.. that pairs well with his downer/heavy fastball.. What I don't know is about his curve/slider/cutter.. I call them that because I'm not sure what it is that he does throw.. I can say that when he's on.. it's matches his downhill pitches of his FB/Ch.. but has late bite. There are TOO DAMN MANY TIMES that it hangs.. one of these three have to become his "go to" If he can harness it.. he'd be in the MOR or better group..

The others.. I don't know enough about to say.. but my interest is piqued by Tommy Ventimiglia..

Man that Carson Tucker pick looks like gold doesn’t it?

There's NFW I can assure you being clear... lol..

These three are certainties:

espino
williams
hankins

The two others/maybe's are:
vargas
morris

Those are my four or five.. could be a couple more..
Does Lenny Torres fall in this category? He hasn’t pitched lately and has been excused for personal reasons as he just lost his dad to lung cancer.

Good stuff. You still have faith (or maybe hope) in Hankins? He hasn't pitched in like 4 years. But man if you can add an electric arm like that to this already STAAAAAACKED org, look the fugg out.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I think JhonGOATNY Noel needs more hype. He has 25 HRs on the year and it is July 9. There's years when 25 HRs would damn near lead the org for the whole MiLB season. We've had some MASHERs before that I have supported in BradGOAT, OGOATz, and Will BensGOAT. But JhonGOATNY seems to out MASH them all. He's got to be on pace for what, 45+ HRs this year? That's unheard of in MiLB within this org.

K rate is at 30%. Not good. But within that MASH class, it's not worst in show. He's still (for a week) just 20 years old. And launching BOMBS in AA Akron.

Could we have our own home-grown FranGOAT Reyes? A MASHFEST who might only hit .230 or so but launches 35 BOMBS a year?

Thots?

Man that Carson Tucker pick looks like gold doesn’t it?

Tucker honestly has been hurt, so he gets a bit of a pass at the moment, but he has a ton to prove next season. Remember he was drafted out of high school so with the injuries and the pandemic, he has lost a bunch of time. He is still very young though, so hopefully this season he gets his feet wet and gets the basics of swimming down to improve on for next season. He's gonna have to start facing the sharks then.

Does Lenny Torres fall in this category? He hasn’t pitched lately and has been excused for personal reasons as he just lost his dad to lung cancer.
first time I saw Lenny Torres pitch.. my mind went to some of the more famous "drop and drive" pitchers.. There have been very few of them lately.. Perhaps, sonny gray, is the most current..

Lenny Torres struck me as an RP from day one.. with his drop and drive motion and limited repertoire, as an RP, his stuff could play up.. as far as a high leverage, back of the pen RP.. Read: Closer. As an SP.. maybe not..

Man that Carson Tucker pick looks like gold doesn’t it?
The only thing that I can say affirmatively about Carson Tucker.. he's got to be better than Q-Holmes..

HEADS UP!!!!

Fans of the CLE system should take a look at Gm 1 of the Lake County double header in Fort Wayne...
