2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When you are a defensively limited LH bat in an org that doesn't hit lefties well and already loaded with LH bats, handedness makes a huge difference.

Everybody is a star when they are prospects...lol. The next big thing.

These prospects are already R5 eligible...

Call
Fry
Benson

These are R5 eligible in Dec....

Brennan
Pries
Martinez
G Rodriguez

These are already on the 40 man, but haven't yet secured a spot in Cleveland...

Jones
Arias
Freeman
Rocchio
Noel
Tena
Valera
Lavastida
OGonz

A 40D in a 34B.

For those interested, MLB Pipe has put Cantillo as the 30th prospect ... assume for dropping Myers....
Cantillo has reclaimed a spot in the top 20 imo. I dont think they put much thought into the order during the year.

Cantillo's trajectory and stuff say = Trade Bait.. sorry to say..

For me, one of Joey Cantillo or Logan T Allen gets kept while the other is part of a trade package later this month.

Not possible to keep everyone...

Agree. @Gson thots on how the two stack up and why you'd keep Logan Allen Junior verse Cantillo or the other way around?

Seems like Cantillo has a higher ceiling and more velocity. But I know very little.

I'd say Logan T has the higher floor. Cantillo still walking too many guys in AA. I'd feel like Logan T could be called up today and give us some decent lefty relief if the plan wasn't to keep him a starter (which I'm not arguing against, but just saying as a hypothetical to illustrate his floor).

Cantillo really cut down on those walks after his first few starts if Im not mistaken.

Not saying I'm right, but I prefer Cantillo to Allen. Both are very good, young SP prospects, but I like Cantillo's ceiling which I see as higher.

Sort of but not for long really... last 5 starts 24.2 innings, 12 BB. Good for BB/9 of 4.46 which is actually above his season average. But he did have a good stretch after having two games in a row with 5 BB.

Personally, I'm of the belief that one of the raw skills that pitchers have is to throw a strike, sort of like for hitters it is to make contact, and sometimes it's actually easier moving forward in other areas (velo/stuff for pitchers) than it is to try to hone in that accuracy (or hand-eye coordination for hitters).

For that reason I'm going to value Allen considerably higher but not going to try to deny the upside of Cantillo.

Look at someone like Pilkington, about 3.1 BB/9 in AA/AAA with Cleveland, but that number so far has skyrocketed to 5.1, limiting his effectiveness. If he can't figure this out it will put a pretty severe ceiling on him.

Cantillo does have the higher ceiling, but he wasn't added to the 40 man cause of injury concerns. Cantillo has a high bust cause of it while Allen, has a good floor and will make the bigs. He just doesn't have the upside of Cantillo, but I would put more money into betting on Allen having a good career over Cantillo.

If Cantillo was still in SD's system then I would agree with you, but since he is in Cleveland's I'm gonna put my money on Cantillo. I think they'll both have good MLB careers unless there are unfortunate, career threatening injuries. I don't think Cantillo has a "high bust" at all. He's also over a year younger than Allen.

Edited to say that if they are dealing one of them at this point then they could likely get more from Allen due to the reasons you and KS stated.
