2022 Season | Series #23 | Red Sox @ Guardians | June 24-26

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The good news:

Aaron Civale lowered his ERA.

Tanner Tully saved the bullpen.

Jose had 3 hits!

Don't have to worry about a catcher competition, as they are hitting about equally now.

@daddywags
To make that switch you need 2 spots on the 40 man roster to add Call and Fry. Right now there are no open spots.
The remaining open spot (from the DFA of Mercado) was used to add Tanner Tully over the weekend.

Who do you expose to waivers & likely lose off the 40 man for these moves to happen??

Don't mistake this as a defense of having Ernie Clement on the MLB roster & playing/ starting in LF (it isn't).

I didn't realize neither is on the 40 man. I would dfa Clement, though, he has no future here. Miller just shouldn't be playing every freaking day. His batting average is sinking faster than the Titanic. We've badly mismanaged our 40 man if Naylor and Miller are the only two who can play 1B.

Welcome to the life of a young team.

Already seen it a few times where they go on lengthy stretches where it feels like every break goes against them and they lose game after game.

Next step in the progression of this team is finding ways to win ugly to avoid a 3, 4 plus game losing streak.

And it never helps when you kneecap your own lineup tossing out Ernie Clement ahead of the C spot in the lineup. For a team that relies on stringing together multiple hits or walks to produce most of their runs that is a major handicap.

Bradley was supposed to be the 1B but he flopped... Noel is getting his 1st taste of AA.... Miller normally does better at 1B and Naylor isnt any better...

I do think we will see some changes here soon, personally...

How different will this lineup look like 12 or even 24 months from now. It seems like most of the big time talent is still in the minors, which will open up a more realistic contending phase .

Squandered a big opportunity to get some major buzz going around town this week.

I haven’t been able to follow as closely to this point this year, but I remain impressed by the commitment to get multiple guys playing out of position and cramming 3 or 4 terrible hitters into the lineup on the regular.

Ok so your original suggestion was a case of Ready-Fire-Aim. Got it.

A discussion on how the 40 man roster was managed/ created/ put into this position could fill multiple pages and likely cause some hard feelings among those in the discussion.

Bottom line: We can all look back and suggest different routes to go, but at the time when decisions had to be made (right before Thanksgiving), the FO group made the choice to protect as much of the young talent as possible. Yes a number of those players are not yet ready for the majors, but many people would scream/ go crazy if some talented players were lost for $100k each.

The scary thing is, there is another deep group of talented players needing to be added to the 40 man after this season. @sportscoach even started a R5 thread to discuss it in the Minor League section. Feel free to look it over.

Outside of Kwan, who only Fangraphs was high on(and just after what he did last year in AAA), all of our tops prospects are still in the minors.

In two years, our rotation should be very different and actually improved on, which is really odd to say considering how young and good it has been the last few years.

Going over the top prospect list, Rule 5 eligible list and going by the methods the FO does things...

I'd say at least 25% of the current roster will not be around by the 24 season.

We aren't done retooling the roster, players like Rosario, Quantrill, Plesac, Reyes could be gone while there is a very high probability we have trades for Miller and Lucroy in a sense, like we did in 16, sometime in the next year.

A betting man would have 24 as a year they win the World Series...
