2023 Cleveland Guardians Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Athletic has a column on hitters who are doing a lot worse than expected this year. Here's their comment on Gimenez:

In an obvious effort to be more of a Guardian than he already was, Andrés Giménez is striking out less and hitting for less power. The hope had been for the 24-year-old to continue to improve his Barrel rate, continue tapping into his power, and continue to grow into more of a superstar middle infielder, but he’s instead regressed, and last year seems like the power outlier looking back. Still … he’s on pace for something like 11 homers and 25 stolen bases, and those are viable counting stats in any league.

It’s the .228 average that’s the problem. The thing is, you don’t usually see a good strikeout rate like this, paired with at least passable raw power, and batting average outcomes like this...

It would still be better for Giménez to hit the ball harder, but when you see him projected for a high-.260s batting average everywhere, it looks like he still has the process skills to get there. He’s a decent buy for those steals.

We keep talking about our supposed 'real' window of contention, and moving it back.

Last year we were supposedly ahead by a year, and this was the first 'real' year.
Nope.

But please keep making things up. It definitely promotes good conversation.

Cats, no offense meant, but I feel like at times, you don't really listen to what everyone says...

Some like me, feel like the window is now while others don't believe it's until 25...
He doesn't care what anyone else says.

He has a made-up reality in his head and keeps talking to everyone else as if his fantasy is our reality.

It's incredibly frustrating because I'm sure he could be a great member of this board with valuable insight.

Unfortunately he continuously renders paragraph upon paragraph of text irrelevant because it's based around a false assumption in the opening sentence.

I started to reply to his post, but then decided it just wasn't worth it. Like you said he's living in a "made-up reality".

Its all right there for everybody to read.

We consistently move our real window of contention back.

We consistently opine that trading good prospects for productive long term MLB players will somehow hurt this teams future.

Guess what?

If we had traded for Reynolds, we would no longer need Valera, Oscar, or Brennan.

If we had traded for Murphy, we would no longer need Bo.

If we had traded for Tommy Edmans, we would no longer need Arias, Freeman, Rocchio, Martinez, or Tena....and Amed would not be here.

Show where anyone moved it back. I dare you.

Nobody here is against trading prospects if they don't fit into this team's big picture, but they aren't trading for short term assets. You know why? Because it isn't the time to do that because the window of contention isn't quite here yet and they have a ton of their own talent to sort through.

Reynolds wasn't going anywhere which is evident if you take the blinders off.

They tried to trade for Murphy. Clearly the A's didn't want what Chernoff was offering.

Edman is a FA after the 2025 season. He doesn't lineup up well with this team's contention time. If they would have shitcanned Rosario then we'd be finding out who our SS is going forward. There's plenty of talent that deserves a good, long look.

Until we had to pay them all. Then they'd be gone and we'd be screwed.

Nothing that gets the juices flowing like the start of a @CDAV45 and @CATS44 grudgematch that you know is going to last for about 17 pages over the course of 9 days.

I’m locked in, got my snacks and a big gulp, considering using my vacation time to take the week off

I'd rather argue with you so get off your ass.

I only argue in the Cavs forums.

Guardians are just for enjoyment or laughs, depending on how they’re playing. Thankfully there’s been a few days of enjoyment in a row!

Oh c'mon! You can do it! All you have to do is tell us how we're all saying some shit that we're not actually saying and we're off and runnin'. It's easy.
