2023 Cleveland Guardians Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dont understand why so many on here keep making excuses for the FO stunning failure to improve this team, esp when it has so many resources to do so.

'We tried' doesn't cut it. Trying without succeeding is failure.

The FO should be held to the same standard as the players.

Zimmer tried. Bradley tried. Plesac tries.

Some on this board complain that Dolan doesn't spend money that he doesn't have, but seem perfectly fine when the FO refuses to spend assets it does have...and then shrug when those assets turn to dust a year later.

Our FO is well known to be the most difficult to deal with in MLB. Thats not a badge of honor.
Last I saw, NO ONE outside of those in the trade negotiations knows exactly what Oakland was asking from CLE.

Many speculate that there was a hang up surrounding Espino or Valera.
What if that wasn't it at all?
What if the Oakland ask was for B Naylor, T Bibee, G Williams, B Rocchio & the CLE Comp pick in the upcoming draft for Murphy alone??
I would fully understand & support CLE not agreeing to that deal.

The non-trade for M Olson is behind us. The non-trade for S Murphy is behind us. Time to let things go & move forward..

Holy shit the Orioles are crushing this year. And they the Guardians of 2023, team from nowhere?

They were surpringly good last year too. Their starting pitching is not very good but they can score runs and their closer can bring it behind a good bullpen. In the Central they would be a tough beat.

They have two of the nastiest relief pitchers in the league right now.

Their closer Felix Bautista has a 1.44 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. He was a stud last year and that has continued this year.

But even more inexplicable...

29-year-old Yennier Cano who gave up 26 hits, 16 walks and 23 earned runs in just 18 MLB innings last year has only allowed, get this, 11 hits and one walk in 26.2 innings so far this year.

His ERA is 0.68. His WHIP is 0.450. His K to BB ratio is 29.0.

Edit: Cano gave up a 3 hits and a run today, but the Orioles still won.

The importance of relievers is underrated. We'd be doing significantly better if ours were equally nasty to last year. So many games have been lost due to the failures of the pen.

I went to Camden a couple weeks ago.

Orioles are loaded. They’re about a year or so away from Jackson Holliday as well (he is all the rage in Bowie where they’re anticipating his arrival)

Must be nice to have good young hitters in the system.

Was at the game yesterday. Only get to go to about one game a year the week I’m in Cleveland over the summer. Great win , however so much work just to score 4 runs .

It’s gonna be hard for this team to go on any Extended winning streak with this offense . Arias needs to play everyday to figure out what he is . I have given up on Freeman getting regular at bats. They have already messed up his development.

The division is so bad that it is going to likely discourage them from trading Rosario, Bell and Bieber . But I still think those are the right moves to make long term.
