Does Fry have a chance to win a backup C spot? He's got some versatility and power. He's older, but had a decent season in Columbus then they sent him to the AZFL and he raked. I don't have confidence they'll go that route, but I'd guess he might be more desirable than Lavastida at this point. They could replace Miller with him and see how he does while still signing a backup C.

At the moment Fry isn't going to play in the bigs with Cleveland in 23, unless there is a major injury to someone like Josh Naylor since they don't want to start Noel in the bigs yet and Pries hasn't hit AAA. I think he's still an insurance piece, that has to show his upside is more than a AAAA player...

I'm not sure how you know "Fry isn't going to play in the bigs with Cleveland in 23" and I'm not sure that he won't. Like I said, he can replace Miller and what would be hurt? He can play C, 3B and 1B so he offers some versatility in areas where there isn't a lot. I'm not expecting him to be named the backup C, but it wouldn't surprise me if he found his way onto the roster in 23. He's got a good hit tool and power.

It doesn't seem like Cleveland FO sees him as a catcher. I wish I knew more about why.

Nationals get: Amed Rosario
Guardians get: Lane Thomas
Cavs get: Kyle Kuzma
Wizards get: Caris LeVert

Feels like a pretty balanced trade between Cleveland and Washington DC. In order to make the trade fit the NBA's trade rules, the Guardians offer to eat some of Caris LeVert's salary.

Don't give me that look. You asked for creative! :chuckle:
Toss in Terry McLaurine WR commanders and we have a deal

At what point in time do i seriously give consideration to trading Shane Bieber who is most likely not going to resign in Cleveland? And what is a reasonable return on trading Plesac who is likely to precede Bieber out of town?

Not this offseason Bieber. If Cleveland stumbles early next year, he could move at the deadline. If they're in it, they'll hold him until next offseason

Plesac or Civale could go this winter, although neither's bringing back a whole lot. A couple mid-level prospects from a farm system, maybe an upper level outfielder to add to Cleveland's collection of interesting but flawed players out there

Not including Kwan in that, to be clear. He's really good. Brennan, González and Straw are all very different players with some standout skills but obvious limitations as well

FWIW, prime candidates for a regression usually have peripheral stats that don't line up with their baseline statistics.

Kwan's are fantastic across the board. Every guy is going to have ups and downs from year to year but Kwan did this year what Kwan does... which is what he's done pretty much every year from college to pro.

Guys like Oscar Gonzalez and Andres Gimenez? I think you could see more variance from year to year unfortunately.

Guys with high K%, low BB% and high BABIB tend to be prime regression candidates for me....

While I highly doubt this will dictate what moves the Guardians do to improve the team given a chance, seeing all of Amed, Arias, and Rocchio is interesting.

Sometimes you bring in more people than you need, knowing 1 or 2 may not be coming after all.

I'm not sure honestly. He did catch in the AZFL and he's a good athlete. I don't have a clue, but he could be a possibility. Especially if he starts off more as a 3rd C. Ease him in and see what happens.

Early comment returns, agree with "us" - The A's are smoking crack with that asking price.

I get the feeling that the Blue Jays are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of some dumbass giving Oakland an overpay. The A's are pretty much f'ing the entire C market up right now.

If they are serious, they will eventually shift to near mlb ready prospects. But still couldnt do anything crazy like Valera, Rocchio, Williams/Bibee.
