2023 Offseason Potential Targets (FA and Trades)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Trade #1
Cleveland receives: Royce O'Neale
Brooklyn receives: 4 srp's

Why?
Cleveland needs a wing & they can absorb him into the MLE.
Brooklyn gets some value for a guy that might not be in their future plans.

Trade #2
Cleveland receives: Dorian Finney-Smith
Brooklyn receives: Cedi Osman (unguaranteed), Lamar Stevens (unguaranteed), Sam Merrill (unguaranteed) & 4 srp's

Why?
Cleveland adds another quality wing.
Brooklyn shaves a massive amount of salary & gets back a total of eight second rounders.

Sign Clarkson for the minimum with the promise of a pay raise when we get his bird rights.

PG: Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio / Raul Neto
SG: Donovan Mitchell / Jordan Clarkson
SF: Royce O'Neale / Dorian Finney-Smith / Isaac Okoro
PF: Evan Mobley / Dean Wade / Luke Travers / Isaiah Mobley
C: Jarrett Allen / Khalifa Diop
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

Wait, so you want to trade EIGHT second round picks to get RON and DFS??? You must not want Koby to make a draft pick again. Where are these 8 2RPs coming from anyway???

Improbable trade scenarios always bring back memories of Pete Franklin. Callers were constantly proposing trades in a desperate attempt to make the Indians better. I'm wondering if other fans of a certain age ever get the same feeling.

Cavs are going to have to catch lightning in a bottle to get a decent SF. I still the think the best hope is Okoro improving. I'm giving him one more year.

I'll be honest. I don't get the appeal of Royce O'Neale. He's only 6-4 doesn't solve our issues with needing a bigger wing. He can space the floor I'll give him credit for that. He's good friends with Mitchell. But I just don't see him being the missing piece for the Cavaliers.

Also signing a player with a promise to pay them down the line will get you docked multiple first round picks. Ask Timberwolves what happened when they pulled that stunt with Joe Smith in the early 2000s. Lost the player. Lost 3 first round picks. It was a mess.

His employer lists him as 6'6"...and he has a 6'9" wingspan...

Definitely appreciate you being honest for once. Liars suck!

I agree with you, Royce O’Neale doesn’t even improve the Cavs by 1 win against the Knicks in the 2023 playoffs if he was on the roster.

Just a dumb idea

Thoughts? Dalen Terry has potential.

Cleveland receives: Alex Caruso, Patrick Williams & Dalen Terry
Chicago receives: Jarrett Allen

Why?
Cleveland adds much needed wing depth & a hard nosed player in Caruso.
Chicago risks losing Vucevic so they get a replacement.

If the Cavaliers had a plan to replace Allen (Brook Lopez on a full MLE deal?) then I'd probably do this deal.

As an aside, the Bulls are rumored to want to extend Vucevic for a few years. Not sure how true it is, but that would mean they don't need JA.

Wojo was on SIRUS Sports Radio earlier today and said the Cavs were kicking the tires on what it would cost to trade for Miles Bridges. He said the Hornets want Bridges back but is also weighing the possibility of public outcry. He said the Hornets could look at executing a S&T with the Cavs sending Okoro, Cedi, and possibly Stevens along with 2-3 second rounders back in the trade.

Do not want

Cleveland receives: Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke, Jonathan Isaac (waive), 6th & 11th picks
Orlando receives: Donovan Mitchell & Ricky Rubio

Why?
Cleveland gets a nice package of young players & picks to re-tool their roster.
Orlando pairs Paolo & Franz with a star.

I'm not sure how unguaranteed contracts work now, someone please enlighten me.

This would immediately make Orlando better than us for the foreseeable future. You’d have to hit on one of those picks being an all star pretty quickly, which happens, but not often. Seems like a risky gamble to weaponize another team in your Conference while hoping the draft is kind.

I’d only be doing something like this if the Cavs didn’t think Mitchell was going to resign.

I wouldn’t take back Isaac. I’d need WCJ instead and probably another future pick as none of the other players in that trade are really ready to help a team compete. That’d give the Cavs more options down the road if they opted to flip Allen plus pieces for a legit wing or something like that.

Again, only something I’d consider if Mitchell went to Cavs and said he’d be leaving in two years. But if that’s the case, he’s probably not going to want to stay in Orlando either.

Cleveland receives: Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke, Wendell Carter Jr., 6th & 11th picks
Orlando receives: Donovan Mitchell & Ricky Rubio

Why?
Cleveland retools their roster & get some valuable picks in a strong draft.
Orlando pairs Banchero & Franz with a star.

Honestly, a big man rotation of Mobley, Allen & Carter Jr. sounds nasty. I'd make this trade without hesitation.
