2024 Cleveland Browns Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I’m very concerned about the WR position next year. This might be when we start to truly feel the negative impact of Watson’s contract. Do we try trading up in the draft for someone who could provide some production?

I'd trade down before I'd ever think about trading up

Coaching wasn't the problem. I will give Slowik credit: he knew what he needed to do. He drew up some unique big plays early because he didn't want to play from behind. The game broke open when Flacco started to press. He was pressing because we didn't have the talent on offense to keep up with those early big plays for the Texans. So, hats off... but this was a talent deficit with a pinch of great preparation from Slowik.

Normally I would agree, but our window is going to slam shut pretty soon with Watson. If our #1 receiver is Elijah Moore our ceiling is like 7 wins.

I’m not saying trading up for a WR is the answer, but we have to turn over every stone possible to try getting some legitimate talent at the position (assuming we move on from Cooper).

I just don't know how you fix the team problems except for the obvious upgrade areas like LB and WR. Everyone gets hurt. Do we focus more on depth?

I think trading up = better talent is just a poor philosophy.

Look at GB. They haven't invested any 1st rounders at WR in how many years? And now they are starting to cook big style with another bunch of youngins.

You’re right that this is what we should hope for, just it is easier said than done. I like AB, but his picks at receiver have left a bit to be desired. I’m not comfortable banking on him to find those gems in the mid rounds at this position. There is no definitive answer at this moment. Let’s just hope we can find a way to keep Cooper and aren’t relying on Moore to be our #1.

If you want to boil this down to skipping a logical analysis in favor of your search of the fraction of that analysis you want to attack, you will find it every time.

Did Slowik design a great game plan? Absolutely. Did it work? Yes. The point here is all the other stuff I said. We didn't have the more talented team. On the Browns side, certain individuals didn't come close to executing. On the other hand, the Texans had the home field advantage and some head scratching 50/50 situations all went their way. It happens.

It also doesn't mean the coaches weren't putting the team in a great position to win. Isolating the discussion to coaching is nearsighted.

It’s been a pretty big drought for international Browns games. We could end up playing our Jags game in London or getting the Brazil game, others are off the table.

Let their continent get their own teams. I don’t want them traveling to Eurotrash central.

I just don't agree with this at all.

The Browns defense *is* more talented man-for-man than the Texans offense is and Slowik simply ran laps around Schwartz all night long. Took every single thing the Browns defense had shown to be susceptible to all year and just drilled them with them drive after drive.

This was as healthy as we could reasonably expected the defense to have been in the 19th week of the season. It was decidedly not a depleted defense out there for the Browns tonight.

I wouldn't want a huge reach up the draft boards, but if a WR the Browns really like is hanging around pick 40-45 they should consider their options. Draft compensation like the JOK trade in '21 where they sent 59 and 89 to the Panthers for 52 and 113.

The Browns have been pretty bad all year when they have had to switch to a more zone based team, and they were murdered by crosses in man.

Next year, a priority focus is learning a change up to our super hot fastball. Because no matter how good our man defense is, it can be schemed against by the right opponent.

That being said, credit to the Texans and CJ. They took the Stafford game plan the Rams put out there and did it with lesser talent. That's some crazy shit. Add into that the Browns penchant for turning the ball over, and it was lights out.

Some things must improve next year. The defense definitely needs to learn another move, and the offense needs a shred of luck injury wise

We won't agree then.

I didn't really see the Texans sustain drives, I saw Slowik cash in on a handful of long plays that, to his credit, he knew would play against the Browns tendencies. If the unquestionably depleted offense could control the game even slightly, the third quarter is completely different.

But, neither of our opinions are changing anything, so enjoy your evening. I'm moving on. The past month was all found money in my book.
