23 GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is probably C - 1B - OF .... but I doubt the Guard FO will do anything beyond look for a few prospects when they trade for pitching. 1st base is just really Noel - Pries - Collado (who is in low A). Catcher is Naylor-Lava-Lopez/Mejia in low A. At least for OF - Palacios - Valera - Halpin - Lampe - Lipscomb and Altunez (in low A). Yet there are some guys that can stand out with DeLauter and Boyd being injured. And, we just promoted 3 last year that depleted the ranks unlike C/1B (Brennan, Oscar and Kwan).
Yeah, as far as overall system talent. But I was thinking about what we could do about resurrecting the 23 season. OF would be the quickest remedy.
You won't be able to trade for a good veteran catcher. They just aren't available. You might be able to get a catching prospect. But then you have him and Bo going for the same position. As far as 1st base, our 1B in 2024 will be Josh Bell. No sane organization will offer that guy more money than what his option is worth here.

I would love to get a veteran OF bat. But it just won't happen.

You are moving the Gold Glove Kwan out of LF? I don't agree with that. If he plays 1B, what are you doing with Bell and Naylor (who does a good job at 1B)?
Yep and slide him right over to CF where he was prior to playing LF in Cleveland. No, he probably won't win any GG in CF, but he is well above average there and his bat brings a ton more value than Straw's. I'm not saying that I like the idea of Busch in LF, but it isn't a terrible idea. Especially if he hits for average and power like he is perfectly capable of. Personally, I'd prefer a big RH bat in both LF and RF so Vargas is a better target IMO.
Baltimore has the need and has the most players that fill our needs. A package starting with Hays/Santander and Cowser/Kjerstad with Bradish since Cdav loves him so much.
Santander hits FA in 2025. That's where they view the actual window of contention opening. Hays is a FA in 2026 so he fits better. Instead of Santander who fits Baltimore's window(now) I'd target Westburg. He's been playing some OF and has a huge RH bat that hits for average and takes walks. If they can get Bradish, Hays and Westburg I'd make a mess in my pants. That right there helps us immediately and going forward. If they wanted to keep Hays I would be fine with that too. Just replace him with Cowser. Then we'd have Bradish, Cowser and Westburg. All 3 of those guys fit perfectly into our window IMO.

Nothing would be better for the Guardians than to acquire a competitor to Bo Naylor's hold on the starting catching position.. A 40:60 split.. switched from time to time for top of the prospect heap catching talent is the BEST any team can hope for..

The adage remains.. when you think you have enough good catching.. go get more..

The veteran OF bat won't be as hard as you think... The problem is finding a veteran OF bat that can actually help since if we are going to go for one, they need to be a true upgrade over what we have...

You would love how I run my teams on OOTP haha I'm always having to trade away catching prospects since I always have as many as possible and then I would lose some in the rule 5 if I don't trade them haha

Should be easy to do if Quantrill and/or Civale are on the market. I'm sure the Cardinals would be willing to give Herrera and something else(Graceffo maybe) for Cal or A-A-Ron.

IDK about easy.. but, value for value.. does make some sense and fits the goals of the teams involved..

Westburg has played one game in LF and 3 games in RF. He is at the very beginning of being an outfielder. Whether he can adapt is still be determined. We saw that Rosario could not. They would have to be totally sure about it for me. I am not interested in him otherwise as we already have too many middle infielders.

Finding a good mlb OF iis not going to be easy. Everyone seems to want to trade with the Cardinals yet I have no interest in Carlson or O'Neil who would be the OF that St. Louis would want to move.

Where did I say that I'd move Kwan to 1B?

If Busch moves to LF, Kwan goes to RF or CF. If Busch plays 1B, he basically replaces Bell as 1B/DH

Kwan is a gold glove at LF and average at the other two spots...

Also does Busch really help us in the end? He's honestly a 1B that they play off of 1B... He would add power on paper, but he plays the same position as Naylor...

I never said anything about moving Kwan to 1B. If Busch pays left field, you're moving a gold glove outfielder away which is not smart in my opinion. If you put Busch at 1B, what happens to Naylor & Bell. Why don't we just trade for someone to play RF and quit moving people out of position.

He’s been getting reps there all season. There’s a lot more to a baseball season than just games. He’s a very good athlete with a well above average arm. He can play either corner just fine. There’s nothing to determine.

Rosario can’t play any position very well. Just not a good comparison. Westburg would be an excellent acquisition.

No. He’s above average in CF and his limited offense negates his effectiveness as a LFer. I’m fine with him staying in LF, but they better get a big hitter in CF then. There’s a reason corner OF bats are typically big ones.

What’s more valuable in LF, a GGer with no power or an average defender with a big bat. Defense should never be ignored, but it can’t be the main focal point in every OF spot. Put Kwan in a line with Hays, Ward, Azorena, Renfroe, Reynolds, and a few others and Kwan gets picked last.
