Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If they are serious about contending soon then they cannot go forward with an OF of Kwan, Straw and Brennan. There just isn't enough offense or should I say the ability to produce runs between those 3 like other playoff teams have. It's a disadvantage and that is blatantly obvious.

He cannot refuse an outright assignment since he doesn't have enough MLB time...
Actually he can refuse but likely wouldn't... from MLBTradeRumors:

"Of course, Plesac has three years of big league service time, giving him the option to reject an outright assignment. That said, he would forgo the remainder of his $2.95MM salary in doing so, making it rather unlikely Plesac decides to test the open market."

That's right! Fletcher didn't opt because of the loss of his contract if he did. I'm trying to remember what the service date is under for the players not to be able to opt out/file for free agency. Is it under 3?

We would still owe him the rest of the 2.95 million. I doubt we will release him though...
Yeah a tight team like Cleveland will probably keep him, but they might be "done" with him and just want him gone.

Manager/Coach: "...we're down 23-0... Plesac !!... you're in.. throw strikes... We have a four hour bus ride & we'd like to get to the hoochie hotel before midnight..."

I think that might be a question of how he has been in the clubhouse & as a teammate with the players in Cbus.

If Zach has had issues/ hiccups while down this year, a couple million might be well spent to send him away..

If they release him, you know exactly why...

@Gson @CDAV45

I have another addition of WTF did coach come up with! Need opinions... lol

Alright here's the deal, and I don't know if it would fly in real life, but here goes..

Cleveland gets
C Elias Diaz (Col)
LHRP Suter (Col)

Houston gets
OF Blackmon (Col)
1B Toglia (Col)

Rockies get
1B Abreu (Hou)
OF Gilbert (Hou)
C Corey Lee (Hou)
1B/OF Noel (Cle)
OF Palacios (Cle)

Now this is a first draft of an idea... The main premise is, Cle gets Diaz, Houston cuts Abreu, and Rockies get prospects to take Abreu...

Cleveland would of course cut/trade Zunino as well...

What do you guys think?

With the injury to Yordan Alvarez, Houston will pray that Abreu wakes up. He then hits a 3 run homerun in his first at bat tonight.

Right after I posted this too...

I don't think this would happen, but I think Cleveland should bit the bullet and see if they can bring in Diaz from the Rockies in a deal. He's a stronger defensive catcher than Zunino, but costs way more. If Bell is gone next season, I feel like the trio of Naylor, Diaz and Fry fit all the needs and Naylor can DH as well, since we would have Fry as an utility guy...

The biggest problem is that Bell won't be gone in all likelihood.

******

It's easier to trade if you KISS.

If we want an upgrade at catcher, look at Gomes. The Cubs are nine games below .500 and going nowhere. They also have Tucker Barnhart, who is a lefty.

Between the two of them, the Cubs are paying $9.25 mil, plus a $1 mil buyout for Gomes (on a $6 mil option), and a $3.25 mil player option that Barnhart is almost certain to choose. They almost certainly want to get out of some of that.

Gomes would cost about $2 mil by late July, plus the $ 1 mil buyout. Or, if the FO wants a mentor for Bo, pay Gomes the extra $5 mil next year.

Gomes still hits, still mashes lefties, and still plays decently behind the plate.

The FO could play it two ways....

Trade a prospect for Gomes and swallow the $2 mil we would still owe Zunino.

Or trade Zunino and a better prospect for Gomes.

We aren't talking a major prospect. At 35 Gomes doesn't have a ton of value. Trading Gomes in July would save the Cubs $3 mil. Trading him for Zunino would save them $1 mil. No biggie either way.

I'm okay with a combo of Naylor and Gomes on paper in 24... Gallagher though I believe has been really good as a backup catcher. Though his hitting hasn't been great... lol

How has Fry been looking back there btw?

I just kind of want to see what type of deal they can make for a guy like Diaz of the Rockies... He seems to be having a solid season and he's gotten out over 30% of base stealers. When the league average in 19% he brings at least that to his game. He's just due to much is the problem. We may be able to get him for cheaper than a bunch of catchers of the same caliber...
