Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They better not waste a dime on Bieber with all the SP talent emerging. Hell, at this time I'd rather see Civale extended.

The time is nearing where decisions to rid themselves of or change the roles of unproductive players.

The time is nearing where trades will have to be made to improve this lineup. The inability to score runs appears to have affected the BP. At the very least it's severely diminished the margin for error.

A huge NO to O'Neill. Why anybody would want him is beyond me.

He had one very good season in 2021.

Before that his combined wRC+ was 92.

After that his wRC+ was 95...683 OPS...28.4% K rate....713 OPS...34% K rate.

And he can't stay healthy.

************

Forget the big names with big power numbers and high K rates.

An under the radar name to consider is Jonny DeLuca of the Dodgers. Scouting reports are underwhelming. Not a big tools guy...generally 45-50 range per tool. But he hits and hits and hits, without major splits...and hits for extra bases...RHer who can play all three outfield positions. Excellent base stealer. Standout sprinter and long jumper in California HS. Turned down track scholarships to play baseball at Oregon. He was just called up by LA.

Not as a headliner, but if we trade with the Dodgers, I want him.

A Nats buddy sent me this today.

Lane Thomas to me is to big of gamble to offer Cantillo...

He's career .247 hitter, and his xBA is at .250 right now... Yes he would add some power, but his track record isn't enough to merit being a legit upgrade...

I know others may see Cantillo or Morris as trade chips but I am not keen dealing away either player.

I see both players as possible weapons out of the bullpen & would love if Tito could utilize both as middle/ late inning bridges to reduce the workloads of some starters and high-leverage bullpen arms...

If Cantillo and Morris put the minor injuries behind them you're looking at 2 very good SP. Having said that I might give up Morris or Nikhazy(preferably) for Thomas. He isn't a FA until 2026 and is just entering his prime while putting together a very good season. He's a well rounded player that I like, but how to fit him in is the difficult question.

He's not worth Cantillo to me... I wouldn't give up that much talent for him

Thomas could make sense since he crushes LHP. Could platoon in RF with Brennan (or allow Brennan to play more CF). The front office likes trading for guys with multiple years of control too.

Dickerson makes no sense since he is another guy that can’t hit LHP.

Lane Thomas for either / or would work.. Thomas is a good player that mashes lefties....

If the Guardians could substitute in an "Angel" along with a "less ready", but, potentially equally talented arm.. that would work, too..

Zach Plesac Outcome: As of this writing, no claim has been made.. it's day five.. there is plenty of "buzz" from anywhere but a secure/knowledgeable source:

Best guess: Unclaimed.. not sure if he can be assigned directly to the Guardians MiLB system w/o his consent.. We'll see..

He cannot refuse an outright assignment since he doesn't have enough MLB time...

Dickerson would be a downgrade.

As for Thomas, whose name has popped up a few times in the last two years....

He's on pace for a 1.8 fWAR season. Thats hardly a breakout.

He hits lefties well, but is not a good fielder. That basically makes him the short side of a platoon with Brennan. Thats simply not enough of an upgrade to justify giving up much for him. Hes more valuable to the Nats as a possible upside play than he is to us.

If we are not going to make a major upgrade, I'd rather hope for the return of Sponge Bob.

Like if we give up a 25 or less ranked prospect that's older, plus essentially DFA'ing Palacios, I could live with the gamble since he's the less AB side of the platoon.

If we had to give up anything greater than yeah, I don't want to make the move. I think the Nats would want more than what makes sense in my mind...

Dickerson should never be considered so I'll leave that right there.

However, according to BR Lane has already produced 1.4 WAR and he's slashing 281/336/455/791 with 12 2B, 1 3B and 9 HR. He has an OPS+ of 120 as we speak. I'm all for sitting Straw and making an OF of Kwan, Brennan and Thomas work. What it would do is take RF AB's away from Arias so that means either Rosario goes to the bench along with Straw or gets dealt.
