23 MLB Offseason News!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If bigger bases help eliminate those split second/after being safe outs... I guess I'll take it.

Seems inevitable we are going to see a LOT more stolen base attempts and maybe even triples... If you like base stealing, hit and run type baseball 2023 should be a good one.

It's not that I don't like aggressive baserunning because I love it, it has more to do with I don't want it falsely inflated. If MLB is trying to revert back to small ball then it's finished. I don't like it and I'm not that young, but the new generation will leave MLB all together. Sometimes they need to just leave shit alone.

The reason they gave was mainly for safety. They are trying to reduce the amount of injuries from sliding into the bases mainly for hand injuries around spikes. Trying to make stolen bases easier was also an incentive.
OK, then explain to me how a larger bag is "safer". Are the defenders not going to be positioned the same? Trying to make stealing a base easier seems senseless and lessens the quality of the game along with its history.

The one i dont like is the limitted pickoff rule. i dont see this as a rule that really helps. I think that makes stealing even easier.

Absolutely! Combine the 2 and it is likely to get out of hand quickly.

I played in a restaurant midnight softball league in my 20's. Lots of fun. One year i had a loaded team that I managed and one of my players(and good friends) was an ex football player and track guy, He was from Cali and finished 4th in the state his senior year in the 100 at 10.3, He ran about a 4.3 40.

Well we played on 60 foot bases and getting him out at first was a joke, he could hit the ball to the pitcher and beat out a clean throw.

Long story short, I feel baseball might be that bad next year, lol

So is there a path to reconciliation for guys like this? Better yet, should there be a path to reconciliation? I don't want anything to do with them honestly, but I don't think it's right to condemn them for eternity if they've actually changed their behavior. How in the hell do you go about confirming something like that though?
Just for perspectives sake: No he says they can't have a job. Just that they won't be allowed to make millions playing a kids game. Being like the 99.9% that can't isnt being damned. It sure beats jail.

Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself.

Oh, it will. Baseball will become pinball. These rules have destroyed this great game.

Ok, boomer. Actual baseball used to feature ample stolen bases, and yes, resembled pinball, not the adult slow pitch softball it has become. The league needed to do something to counter the advantage pitchers and catchers have gained over baserunners that turned baseball into the slow, ugly strikeout/walk/HR affair it is now.

Completely disagree. Slow players will still be slow. Catchers that throw well will still fair well. 'Fuck Around and Find Out' will still apply to guys that lead off too far. What will stop: 90% of pickoff attempts, which were only being done to stall or 'keep the runner close'. Players will learn to steal bases again. It will make ABs more interesting, it will make pitchers work faster, it will reward teams that put the ball in play, and it will help kill the massive amount of 'downtime' that has crept into game times over the last 25 years and made what was once a snappy, enjoyable game to become like sitting through a movie that's an hour too long.

And the biggest reason why we should love it: the Gs are poised to exploit the shit out of it. Jose will go nuts. Kwan, Amed, Gimenez, and Brennan will see bumps in SBs. I think even Oscar gets into it. Straw will become a holy terror as a pinch runner. About the only issue could be Zunino if his arm doesn't rebound. It also allows the game to see a bump in scoring and action without adding steroids and juiced balls. And that alone should be looked on favorably by fans.

You mean the slow, ugly game as played by the 2023 Guardians?
In my opinion we are changing the very fabric of the game. I could write for an hour.

I know some people just struggle with the very concept of change, no matter what it is... How can you say this when we haven't even played a single MLB game with the rules/changes?

I am not a fan of some of these changes, but oh well. Additionally when i see extreme attitudes like this, I can't help but roll my eyes and like the changes more. In fact I will cheer them on simply to oppose sentiments like this.

BIGGER BASES RULE.

Stolen bases actually increased 10% from 2021 to 2022.
