23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just feel like we need one more proven MLB LHRP for high leverage situations...

I am not talking about a Loogy type, I am talking about a setup type, closer to what Miller was. A guy we can setup Clase and/or take a few saves here and there with Karinchak. I'm not talking about a low end guy

Can I ask, against 2 games vs Tampa (NYY wasn't good example with all righties), how many times did Hentges get into a high leverage situation early on -- ahead of Kar, Steph or Clase? He had .186 BAA and .968 WHIP overall and vs LHB he had .143/.370 BAA/OPS and you want someone to pair with him at what cost? Just saying, with mostly righty line-ups like NYY, they are just going with Clase, Kar and Steph even with Choi (not best either) in Tampa in high leverage, close games? Houston or Mets maybe a little different but how much will you spend for 1-2 series? And, you also have Vargas and Morris adding to the high-leverage depth. And, Miller didn't have a high leverage lefty companion either (thought that slider into righties was just as if not more deadly than him as lefty-lefty match-up).

I just don't like having only one lefty in the pen... I always setup a team, if I can on like OOTP or MLB the Show with a lefty and righty setup man especially if my starting rotation in all right handers. It's just how I like a roster setup and we don't have that second left hander in the pen. Now it's possible in 23, Hentges gets moved to more high leverage with McCarty, Cantillo etc getting the early left handed role. I just would like a veteran out there, who is from the left side...

I don't see the need for Renfroe at all. He would just tie up DH. I would rather find another bat that can play 1B to help Naylor.
Renfroe is not just a DH and astronomically better than OGon defensively. Why would you suggest that he'd just tie up DH at all?

Put me in the group that would do a Renfroe for Rosario trade yesterday.

How would you setup the lineup though?

I would counter with Renfroe and Gonzalez split by Naylor... Otherwise for @CDAV45 its perfect...
I don’t know if it’s perfect, but I like it. Swap Brennan for Benson and we’re golden.

As funny as this sounds, Guirrel plus Jansen may not be a bad deal, just we aren't moving Civale and Morris...

Guirrel does play 1B, plus we get Jansen... Though it would have to be a different setup. Jones, Tena and Plesac could work...

Thoughts? @hockeyjohn @CDAV45 @Gson

Love the idea of Jansen, but not sold on Gurriel.

I'd not 100% sold either, but he is a solid RH bat, who plays 1B... I just wonder how well he can play RF and if he can play 2B anymore... If it's Jansen plus Guirrel for Plesac, Jones and Tena type of thing, we don't lose anything in 23, though we may be able to find better return as well, just not a catcher on paper.

I think Jansen could help at 1B too and he’s a bigger RH bat than Gurriel. It’s not that I think Gurriel is shit because clearly he is a pretty good player. I just think that the OF is pretty much covered. Especially LF.

Renfroe for Rosario is a no brainer IMO.

C: B. Naylor
1B: J. Naylor
2B: Gimenez
SS: Arias
3B: Ramirez
LF: Kwan
CF: Straw
RF: Renfroe
DH: Gonzalez

This lineup is absolutely better than this year's.

Straw gets the first opportunity to hack it at the plate and if he falters again, then you can go with Kwan or Brennan and move Straw into a 4th OF role.

Bench
C: Hedges/Maile/Vet Catcher
INF: Freeman
OF: Brennan
1B/DH: Cheap FA Acquisitions (Santana?)
