24 Off-Season GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At the BTV site featured trades, Alex24 posted an LAD/Seattle deal that was voted affirmatively for the Dodger and decidedly negatively for the Mariners.. This was due to the headliner going to the Mariners being a catcher. The Mariners have two ML catchers and a young stud (Ford) at A+.. So, they have no need for a catcher.. The Dodgers have two very strong catching prospects.. The one in the deal is good..but the other one in their system is the guy the Guardians might prefer: Dalton Rushing, a RHH backstop that has it all.. So, the deal was "fixed" from

Dodgers get Logan Gilbert
Seattle gets Michael Busch, Diego Cartaya and Andy Pages.

This is a good exchange of talented players... but, not in areas that would be considered a must make deal if the Mariners are giving up a talent such as Logan Gilbert.. So.. how about a different Logan for the M's while the Guardians insinuate themselves into a deal that may solve the back up back stop for the 2024 season (realistically, Rushing would become a "co-#1" backstop with Bo Naylor) and a fire balling kid who could break out into the Guardians bullpen in 2024 in a big way..

Here is the newly proposed deal with the BTV Values summarized:

Dodgers get Logan Gilbert: 64.6 in / 64.0 out
Guardians get Nick Frasso and Dalton Rushing: 22.2 in / 22.4 out
Mariners get Logan T Allen, Michael Busch, Andy Pages and River Ryan 64.2 in / 64.6 out

Thoughts?

I don't see why Cleveland would trade Allen and get a C back... In my mind, if Allen is being moved it's for a middle of the order bat back and this deal doesn't do that...

I'll do a different deal here for this one shortly...

@Gson

I am not sure if Mariners are actually open to moving Gilbert... They don't have depth at SP anymore on paper...

They do need hitters, especially from 2B and the replacement for Hernandez in the OF so the return for him would have to be different than the original deal...

So let's see what I can think up... lol

Ask Alex24 you questions.. he made the deal.. you don't see what you don't look for..

Well BTV won't let me post what I want to do...

Seattle doesn't have SP depth and they don't have many hitting prospects near, so they do need some help hitting, but would have to get a solid SP prospect back...

I am thinking, Seattle would like OF and 2B help with a solid SP prospect back... So that starts the deal...

How Cleveland could get in...

Dodgers get Gilbert (Sea)

Mariners get Outman (LAD), Freeman (Cle), Pepiot (LAD), Knack (LAD)

Cleveland gets LHRP Vesia (LAD), DeLuca (LAD), OF Aiden Smith (Sea)

Thoughts?

Now, that being said It could be a different mix from the Dodgers, but what Cleveland trades and gets would be the same...

Your deal: two mediocre guys and a kid who might be ready in four years for Tyler Freeman...

easy pass

Vespia was good in 21 and 22, plus is a left handed pitcher... I am thinking a change of scenery would be good for him especially coming to Cleveland...

DeLuca is an averagish defensive OF with pop and is still a rookie. He's got solid numbers as a hitter and can hit 20 HRs in a season. He adds a different skill set than Freeman...

Aiden Smith... he fits perfectly into the mold Cleveland likes with a plus contact skill, but also has the chance to add power as well. He also isn't a slouch in the field and likely will be at least average in CF...

I feel like it fills in needs and adds depth over just keeping Freeman, personally...

I think one of Haase or Lavastida will fill the #2 C quite nicely. If not then they can shop for one then. There will be no "co-starting C" on this team. Bo is your man and now they have to find and adequate backup which is likely already in Columbus.

I have to add that adding DeLuca is pointless if all of Straw, Brennan, Kwan, Laureano and OGon are still on the roster. Does Deluca move the needle at all when considering the current OF along with all of Valera, DeLauter, Rodriguez and Brito? I'm not arguing one way or the other here. I'm just pointing out that there will have to be a lot of roster juggling if they were to add someone like DeLuca. I'm not a fan of the current OF obviously and we can't just sit around and wait for prospects at this time. Point being, is it time to consider a big trade where a prospect or 3 that we covet is dealt for that big hitter?

I'd be looking to add some quality SP depth and locking up a BP arm like Lopez.

.
You expect FO to change its stripes? The manager is changing but not FO.

Freeman was about to get OF work when called up. Will he offseason in Arizona to learn LF/RF
Valera hopefully is healthy.
Brito is on fast track. Will he get OF work in AFL?
Martinez could join CF battles
Noel is hot
DeLauter/Halpin MAY be getting a look-see by end of next year.

All top 10 talent outside of Noel and Halpin, OF hitter is nice but FO won’t change their history of slow steady trades where they look to win big each time.

Yeah... I get your position.. an LHRP who used to be good but who needs a change of scenery, an average'ish / nothing special OF just like what we have and a young OF'er that's four years away..

...but they have skills..

For a kid who can play any number of spots defensively & can flat out hit... Now..

Easy pass...

Little or no thought went into this conclusion..

I think the FO is smart enough to realize when a plan does or doesn't work, if this season's OF was the plan at all.

If they try to get Freeman OF reps then we'll know that they are OK with this type of OF.

Valera, Brito, Martinez, DeLauter, Noel, Halpin or even Rodriguez could provide some help at some point I guess.
