First off... I understand the likelihood of Rosario being moved at some point due to his contract status and the up and coming talent behind him in the organization. But I value Rosario as a talented player in his own right, unlike many people here.

Why don't you ask Rcristal how people responded to him supporting Rosario throughout the season? Search his comments and responses. He was a laughing stock amongst the majority here who consistently bash Rosario as a player and who spoke of Rosario being gone before this season as a done deal and as the accepted "conventional wisdom". You are in denial if you can't see this.

Go a few posts up from this and you will see the laughing emoji below my posts. That was pretty common response to anyone who stuck up for Rosario through all of last season. Face it, many posters here hate Rosario and can't wait to see him gone, and are condescending in how they respond to anyone who sticks up for Rosario as a player. It's been that way since we broke spring training last season and it only grew despite Rosario's contributions.
You’re getting the laugh emoji because of how far off base you are.

Nobody mocked rcristal (or anybody else) for liking or appreciating Amed. He came in hot talking down to everybody who was anticipating an eventual trade (not even bad talking Amed). That’s why he started getting mocked.

Nobody really dislikes Amed. How could they? He’s a solid player, and seems like a good teammate.

Do you think people mocked him just because he thought Amed was a decent player?

I didn't think anyone could be that oblivious.

There are tons of people who think Amed is a fine player. Those people don't get the same ridicule. Let's ponder that reality for a minute and come back with a hypothesis that's a little better than "rcristal got mocked because he liked Amed Rosario"

Name one.

Just as many if not more who actively wanted to see him gone and replaced by <insert young prospect here>.

You understand those aren't mutually exclusive... right?

I can think that Amed is a league average shortstop who is in the final year of his contract. He has played well for us. He got a lot of hits. He is very fast on the base path.

He also lacks power. He lacks plate discipline. He lacks range at shortstop. He hits into a lot of double plays.

That's just who he is--and that's okay. That still equates to one of the best 20 or so shortstops in baseball. Very few things are as exciting as watching Amed fly around the bases.

I can also think that we have the potential between Rocchio, Arias and Freeman, to:
  1. Improve at the position
  2. Save money that we can spend to improve an area of weakness
  3. Get value from trading Amed

Because 80% of his posts in here are replies to anti-Rosario posts in which he wouldn't acknowledge any of the shortcomings in Rosario's game or the logic in why the team would maybe move on from him. And he signs his name after every post. You are in denial if you cannot see this.

Again, going back to your original post where you said you were "assured by lots of experts that this guy would be traded" and "anyone supporting Rosario was subjected to ridicule and told they didn't know anything about baseball".

You turned the hyperbole up 100 because I'm fairly confident "lots of experts" didn't assure anyone that Amed would traded nor did any of the anti-Rosario crowd get personal while defending their position.

People are laughing at your posts because you're doubling down on some guarantee that all these "experts" supposedly made. Coupled with you bumping a thread that hasn't been posted on since the end of January to take a victory lap while Amed is playing pretty poorly. And no, I don't expect Amed to continue to play this poorly. I'm sure his season numbers will rebound to similar numbers that he's produced in for several years in a row now.

Also strongly disagree that many posters here hate Rosario. They just think we can do better.

The only mocking I have found was someone's suggesting that Amed was worth a $100 million dollar contract. Next closest is that we can use that money $8-12 million dollars differently, this year and next year to better help the team. No mocking on the second.

*shrug* I wholeheartedly agree with Urban- "Also strongly disagree that many posters here hate Rosario. They just think we can do better."

There was more hatred towards Myles Straw over the past year than Amed. Myles has found his groove and settled nicely into the 9 spot. We are just grumpy about where Amed is at in the lineup and how that could be costing our Offense long-term. He also plays a position where we have young players that are on the cusp of being ready to prove themselves on the biggest stage.

That 9-figure contract is coming. Just you wait.

I couldn't read a game thread and not many pages in other threads where there wasn't some comment, not about "if", but "when" Rosario would be traded, from last spring training on. But he is well loved by the frequent posters here, whatever.

I'll admit to engaging in some hyperbole if the rest of you will admit that what I've observed isn't completely off base.

The general assumption was that Amed would be moved. You're spot-on there.

This organization tends to trade guys who are approaching the end of their contracts, so we get prospects who we develop, and then continue the cycle over again.

See: Bauer, Clevinger, Kluber, Carrasco, Lindor, etc....

Having Rocchio, Arias and Freeman ready to go, with guys like Angel Martinez and Jose Tena not far off, made that even more likely.

Understanding that is not the same as "hating" Amed Rosario.

I think there's a chance Bieber gets traded. That does not mean I hate him. I think we all like the Kluber trade. That doesn't mean anyone hated Corey Kluber.

Going back through, from what I can remember (and my memory is usually pretty sharp)

Most people here felt Rosario is an average SS, who being in the last year of his contract and having a ton of MIF depth, is more than likely out of here on paper..

They felt their was more cons than pros for keeping him as well...

Guys like RCristal and some others put up a heavy defense for Amed and I am not gonna lie, I think some people did go to far to defend the other side, so I get what you meant by making fun of them a bit...

But I think @CDAV45 ended up saying it the best... The problem isn't Amed being a bad player, the problem is Amed being an average player in a position we had some legit talents near MLB ready in and on paper a guy like Freeman would be able to put up similar OPS+

Plan changed when the offseason acquisitions were short-term.

Both topics of conversation, Bell and Rosario, will be fine. Long season and a lot of bad pitching coming up on the schedule.

No bad pitching today though, lol
