Only an idiot would grade a player over 11 games. Try selling your bullshit to Tito, or Antonetti or JRam for that matter. A guy who had the 5th most hits in all of baseball last season and leading the league in triples....now is the worst player on this Guardians team....got it.
At least you got it. That's a start.

If only CATS44 was running the FO of other MLB teams
If I was running any other MLB team...or if I was running this one fifteen years ago...I can guarantee that Cleveland fans would never have seen toolsy, no contact players like Zimmer, Bradley, Chang, and Johnson play in a home jersey.

The emphasis on acquiring athletic players with skills, esp contact skills, and speed...and college pitchers with command and control... would have begun earlier.

What we are seeing now...what we saw last year...is my dream team...with my
dream manager.

And if you were watching your team play the Guardians, at the end of most games you would be saying to yourself, 'WTF? How did we lose this game?'

The Guardians are the most frustrating team to play against in MLB.

Hey, *insert name-calling insult here*, is anyone doing that?

I'm not saying "These 11 games are representative of what Amed Rosario will be the rest of the year."

I am simply stating that his performance in these 11 games has been abysmal. It has been abysmal, right? Isn't that something we can all agree on? He's been terrible in the field. He's been terrible at the plate. He has made costly errors, grounded into killer double plays and has had some truly terrible strikeouts in clutch situations.

Nobody needs to sell anything anywhere.

Do we need to remind you of your posting history? Since you joined the board you've been nothing but inflammatory with some of the worst takes around. How's Zach McAllister doing? I thought he was a stud because of his ERA, which is the end-all be-all statistic and anything more advanced than it is poppycock?

You are the one that has an inflammatory history. You and 2 others here. All you do is berate and inflame here. And yes, you are judging Amed on 11 games. Last season the man led the team in hits...and walk off winning hits too. But to you and a few others, that means nothing. Yes, he's played like shit this year so far I would love for Tito to swap him in the batting order with Straw. Ain't happening. But calling him "the worst player on the team" over and over and over is just plain asinine. Compare his numbers with Freeman, Rocchio, Arias or any one else last season and you will understand why Amed is still with the team. You keep saying that they shopped him and didn't get the return they wanted. I highly doubt they shopped him at all. Like I said above, I trust Tito, Antonetti and Jose Ramirez judgement over yours any day of the week. They want to win it all now. And whether you or anyone else likes it or not he has the track record of being the best option right now.

Hey, let's get it straight.

I'm now saying Amed has been the second-worst player on the team. He's a touch better, statistically, than Bell. If Bell gets a hit tomorrow, we can go back to saying Amed has been the worst player on the team so far this year.

I don't know why you're getting so twisted out of shape over this.

Amed, statistically, has been the second worst player on the team so far. Myles Straw has been our best hitter. Does anyone think that will continue? Of course not. We're just having a bit of fun with small sample sizes and cold weather.

I'd also bet a fair bit of money that both Amed and Plesac's names were bandied about in many a trade discussion. But of course there's no way to prove that for certain. It just makes sense and aligns with the way this organization has always operated.

Funny that the last post in this discussion was back in January. I was assured by lots of experts that this guy would be traded in the off season if it didn't happen last year. Anyone supporting Rosario was subjected to ridicule and told they didn't know anything about baseball. I guess the front office falls under that category as well?

From what I know and can guess it went like this...

Cleveland was open to trading Rosario...

Best offer they got was a moldy PB&J sandwich... and they wanted at least a non-moldy PB&J sandwich with actual PB&J. Since they didn't get it they kept Rosario...

I don't think there is much else to it.

Now come June, if he doesn't right the ship, they could even DFA him...

We'll see what happens with him and Bell. I question the judgement of anyone who puts much weight on April performances when it comes to hitters, and for that matter defensive performance. Players vary wildly on how they come out of the starting gate in baseball. Always have, always will.

Looked through the thread and didn't see any posts like this. Weird thing to say

It's because it never happened. Most people said that it's likely Rosario got moved because...
  1. We have a group of young, talented middle infielders champing at the bit to play in the big leagues.
  2. Amed isn't anything special, so it isn't going to make sense to pay him tens of millions of dollars when you have potentially more talented players sitting behind him with six years of team control available
  3. The Guardians have a history of trading veteran players before their contract runs out
The only "ridicule" I remember off the top of my head was when people were discussing the whole package of Amed Rosario--like how his incredibly low walk rate, his lack of power, and his tendency to ground into double plays hold back a pretty good hitter, and how his performance in the field, specifically his range, was less than what you'd expect from such a gifted athlete... and then a certain poster would chime in "BUT HE HAS A LOT OF HITS!!!" :chuckle:

Geez.

This forum has had a consistent thread running thru multiple conversations for over a year that insisted that Amed was gonna be traded...good as gone...if not by the deadline, then in the off season.

You would have to be blind to miss it, esp if you were seriously looking for it.

Even Bimbo thought he would be traded... Cleveland just didn't get an offer they liked so they didn't move him...

But look at vote …. 60/40 isn’t consistent trade the bum….

And, I started an argument that he may stay IF Rocchio is heir apparent .318/.857 ain’t a bad start. Few errors and a highlight real or two though.

Valid arguments to remove/replace Amed remain.. Nearly $ 8 MM in salary that might be spent, otherwise is a weak argument.. but, one, never the less.. The replacements are the shiny new bobble... filled with hope and promise.. Also a valid argument..

imho.. there are several reasons tied to Amed still being here.. the most important was the fact that he is and remains a great teammate. He is an example of the kind of work ethic that both succeeds and infects those he touches.. He generated loyalty when none was needed or asked for. Jose Ramirez was one of his guys.... Any other reason pales in comparison when discussing the value of a teammate.

Is he worth the salary.. in today's game.. sure.. it's Monopoly money, anyway.. IF these other guys that had and have the potential to replace him were that good.. Tito would have them in the lineup.. or would have moved Gimenez to his more natural SS position.. or... or... or...

Thoughts?

There's no more "SS is Gimenez's natural position" the same way Jose wasn't moving back to the middle infield after finding his spot at 3B.

Andres is a 2B. He's a gold glove winner and one of the best 2B in baseball. If possible, they'd prefer to keep him there.

When you ask "Is Amed worth the money" what you really need to be asking is if it makes sense to take that money away from a position of need. Let's say that in 2024, we need a starting pitcher. Would you rather be able to get that starting pitcher in free agency because you're paying Rocchio 720K a year, or would you rather have to go without that starting pitcher because you're paying Amed 12M a year while Rocchio rots away in the minors?

He is a replaceable player... He will play as long as he is useful. I hope Antonetti/Chernoff take the decision out of Tito's hands if Rosario doesn't get his bat going soon.

Just because we as fans see this and want this to happen sooner doesn't mean that the front offices around the league understand that he is on borrowed time. Why trade for someone with owed $8 million when you might be able to get him cheaper down the line?
