Boston was the last team looking for a SS and you got a couple decent ones in free agency... Rosario is going to be kept it seems...

@rcristal

You should be happy now...

Dodgers still looking.. Atlanta isn't sold on Grissom.. etc.. there are still teams looking for someone that can give them 184 hits.. Rosario.. is a tiny little microscopically short of this requirement..

maybe...

If I was the Dodgers, I know what I have in Lux but not Outman, Vargas and Busch (esp) at the MLB level. With flexibility of Muncy to play 2nd or 3rd to cover for 1 of Vargas and Busch, I would focus more on the OF especially CF and Thompson or Outman in LF than a SS as Lux isn't great but is solid (like Rosario) and came up as 2b/SS. Lux could go to LF but you can get LF cheaper now than SS (and he has only 45 games in OF in his total career - so not best option to push him out there).

I was about to write on how this market has shaken out that Guardians probably did their push and push for the best deal and other teams like Boston and Angels just had enough (frustrated with slow process) and thus settled on Urshella and Mondesi when these teams were suppose to compete and go for bigger upgrades (but realistically they were coming up short). Dodgers even got Rojas as a back-up as he is flexible and can fill in many places for an emergency. Yet, Rosario is basically put him at SS and that's it. And, Angels and Boston only wanted 1-year guys too with Urshella and Mondesi, so tell me that Rosario wasn't on their lists as a high priority (pay a high price that Chris wanted). Tell me that Rosario isn't available but not for what others teams want to pay (based on what Chris wants).

Atlanta still could be again they may want a better upgrade and may not willing to pay our price till their usual trade-deadline spending spree. Some quotes I found on SI from late Dec:

“Right now on the roster, we’ve got Orlando Arcia and Vaughn Grissom and we think they can handle the position," Anthopolous said. "If we don’t do anything from the outside, whether that’s sign someone or trade someone, those guys will compete. No one will get handed that job."

MLB.com though says Arcia could start but better back-up and Grissom could play LF and try to oust Rosario. So it is a possibility, but probably the last one -- and did they really try to hold onto Swanson? So are the desperate enough? They also have Shewmake who could help if Grissom falters this year (again so they can try the rookies early and if they falter than pay the price in June/July.

It just seems no one has been desperate enough to pay our price for Rosario.

Pretty much agree with most of this.. There appears to be an
obstacle to acquiring Rosario from the CleFO braintrust.. It
wouldn't be unusual to look at later in Spring Training or at
the deadline for a deal.. The Guardians, imho..need to focus
on where they're weaker"

Catcher
&
BOR SP

Someone to sit in the MiLB's that is ML ready at catcher and
or an upgrade to the starting staff are the two areas that could
bring the biggest bang for the buck..

A few teams come to mind...

Funny that the last post in this discussion was back in January. I was assured by lots of experts that this guy would be traded in the off season if it didn't happen last year. Anyone supporting Rosario was subjected to ridicule and told they didn't know anything about baseball. I guess the front office falls under that category as well?

Yeah they look foolish not trading him, but it might be that nobody wanted him. Either way he isn't here for long.

Are you sure you want to be taking a victory lap over the worst player on the team?

Just curious--do you think the front office had the stance all offseason of "Amed Rosario is our starting SS next year?"

Because I think it's nearly certain that the front office was willing to trade him and just couldn't find a team willing to offer enough.

Rosario is still here because for this season, he gives this team the best chance to win. Not Freeman, not Arias. not Rocchio and you need to stop the bullshit that he's the worst player on the team. Deal with it.

That's fair.

Even though Amed has been downright terrible at the plate and in the field, and is on pace for -6.5 WAR on the year... Josh Bell and his three total bases is currently rated a tenth of a point worse.

So, second worst... until Bell gets another hit.

I still don't give Amed the credit that WAR rankings give him for playing SS, because he's playing it so poorly. To me he's been the worst player on the team--but I'll give you a tenth of a point above Josh Bell if you want to split hairs.

I'm so sorry. Can't wait to see that 9 figure contract Amed gets.

Only an idiot would grade a player over 11 games. Try selling your bullshit to Tito, or Antonetti or JRam for that matter. A guy who had the 5th most hits in all of baseball last season and leading the league in triples....now is the worst player on this Guardians team....got it.

No, he does not give the team the best chance to win. He has made it difficult to win with his shitty defense and inability to hit or get on base. His OPS+ right now is 34. Yes, thirtyfuckingfour. You're the one that needs to deal with the reality here.
