Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I see Charlotte being mentioned for Drummond, but could we maybe send them Love+McGee instead?

lots of trades options there, as we could take on Zeller, Scary, Biyombo, and, ideally Bridges...but even without that sweetener, I’d be happy to simply dump Love for expiring a at this point.

we now have Prince too, so you could even make something happen with Prince+McGee+Love for Scary and expirings.

I'm always very worried about paying a guy in a contract year. This is the best he's ever looked defensively as far as I know. How much weight do you give that its a contract year?

I heard him parroting the coach last night. I think he really respects JB. He also sounded like he really wanted to stay on the team and loved his teammates.

I'm a little bummed about it. He's legit anchoring the defense now and he is having fun. I think it is real and he felt valued.

I personally like this huge guy on the team. I sort of want to keep both guys

Trade deadline isn’t until March 25.
So unless something disharmonious and disruptive happens before then, the Cavs have 9 weeks to sort out what makes the most sense for the in the long term.

Obviously that shouldn’t stop us as fans from discussing and making hypothetical trades, but there is time for the team to make a well informed decision

We need to be patient. The trade deadline is March 25th. We just made a big trade and we’ve had people injured. No need to draw conclusions or move people anytime soon.

JBB has done an awesome job. Let’s give him time to do his thing and see what we actually have.

The guys look like they’re having a blast. I love the culture we’re building. If fans were in the building we’d be going nuts over all the great hustle plays and defense to offense transitions.

The “Problem” we have among bigs is that we have too many that play great D. That’s a great problem! It means our guys can play very aggressively and not worry about fouling out. It means we’ll have plenty of energy late in games. It means we can give tired players a night off or reduce their minutes. It means we can put two on the floor with Nance at the 3 and Okoro at the 2 and play lockdown defense. It means SexLand will have plenty of dudes that have their backs defensively.

I’m really enjoying watching this team and excited to see how this goes in the next few months.

Wonder if World B Flat will show up next week when we play the Nets.

I just came here to say Drummond is the Russell Westbrook of big men. He'll put up good, sometimes historic, numbers and get you excited about the boxscores. He might even (seemingly) help you win some regular season games. However, if you rely on him to win you anything meaningful or perform in critical moments, youre likely to regret it. Hes got the skillset and physical gifts to be a HoFer. Hes got the basketball IQ and self-awareness of Forest Gump.

I just came in to say that Drummond shat on my hatred. What a game.
It is a dilemma indeed. Some team with finals aspirations might want him if they get an injury, so a trade is still a possibility. Let’s just revisit this in 3 weeks to see how the new players adapt and if Drummond can keep taking the right shots while keeping the turnovers down.
If you think everyone will agree to shut down the Drummond discussion for three weeks you're dreaming. He seems to be a player that a lot of folks react to pretty strongly, one way or another.

I don't think people have an issue with his defense. It's him being reckless on offense that drives people insane.

When Sexton and Garland comes back, the team shouldn't be trying to go through him but right now it's fine since the team doesn't have a reliable scorer at the moment.

He spoke very highly of Bickerstaff and KPJ after the game.

Why do you believe this? He never played any meaningful games for the Pistons. They only finished over .500 once when he was there (44-38) and they were eliminated 4-0 by the Cleveland LeBrons in the first round. Drummond was 22.

Last night in crunch time he knocked down a big free throw and then cleanly stole the ball to clinch the win. He stepped up in "critical moments".

Yes, the key will be that once he is on the floor with more efficient scorers whether he will reduce his percentage of shots taken and play within the flow of the offense. Even after last night's game he's only in the 13th percentile of centers in points per shot attempt so his efficiency needs to improve. He may be taking more shots than usual due to all the injuries. We'll see. If he respects Bickerstaff he will do what he's asked.

Im just saying I watched a lot of shitty players on non lebron cavs teams over the years, and many of the more talented never put it together with any effort. I cant count the number for times this board has bemoaned the fact that we cant attract high end talent to the team. So here we have a top end talent playing his ass off for 4 minutes in what is really a meaningless game, and with the other 40 minute short handed team members yanking a win from the knicks. .. That is the basketball I want to see.

I am not advocating signing him or not. It is not my money or my paycheck to worry about. But the guy is ballin' and for that he gets my fanhood.

On a further note someone mentioned injuries. I think when a player commits effort on both ends he is more likely to suffer injuries. The real superstars are guys that can do that and not break apart at the seams. The durability we see from Drummond and Sexton lead me to think they are star level players. I have also been a little surprised by Nance's minutes, and he has also remained healthy.

If Drummond didn't have any meaningful games or critical moments in five years with Detroit because they only made it to the playoffs once, then how can you count last night's game for the 6-7 Cavs as a meaningful game or critical moment?

At this point I would rather trade Kevin Love than Drummond, and I've been and continue to be a big fan of Love's. But Drummond gives us much more value at this point and over the next 2-3 years. I'm not convinced Allen is ready to start. I'd rather him learn and grow for another year or two--at least one "regular" regular season instead of this horror show of inconsistency and plague--before we commit to that.

As far as integrating Drummond on offense, you're going to have to live with some of his problems. BUT, how much time have they really had to work on it? Sexton was out most of camp. Garland and Sexton have been out so much. All these injuries. IDK. I find it hard to judge with any confidence at this point.

Like others have said, at least be patient headed into the trade deadline.

I wouldn't fall in love with the guy after one really good game. He's got crazy talent and athleticism, but I'm worried that there's a timer on his level of engagement and buy-in.

And when it goes off, his body language and attitude will be closer to what it looked like earlier this year, when he was visibly moping up and down the court. Once that next contract is secured, the chances of that happening skyrocket.

I think the best move, much as I hate it, is to move him on while his value is still in the black, and let him spend the next 4-5 years crying about lack of touches somewhere else.

I love the Westbrook comp. He is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. I am not sure what to do with him, Allen works starting or off the bench, not sure what type of money Drummond will get. Allen i am thinking 18-20 a year, maybe this offseason, maybe after the QO for Allen.

We can keep both, Drummond is still young, and Drummond can still be frustrating on offense. But he is the best rebounder in the nba and a fantastic defender. He is a bull in a China shop on offense.

Just really not sure what to do with him. Detroit shopped him a ton last year, gave him away to us. He is an expiring, not much value, anyone thinking we get a 1st for him unless taking on a Love level contract is in fairy tale land. If we trade him, it wont be for much, i still think he ends up expiring here so we have the option to sign him long term on a reasonable deal or sign and trade him on a not so reasonable deal, we will see.

If he can't/hasn't lead any of his teams to meaningful games/moments, wouldn't that mean you can't count on him for those games/moments?
